BTO-On the morning of November 1, Binh Thuan Provincial Museum coordinated with the People's Committee of Phan Hiep Commune, Bac Binh District to organize the opening of a class teaching traditional pottery making techniques of the Cham people.
Participating in the vocational training and guidance class for 35 students are Meritorious Artisan Don Thi Hieu and 5 artisans in Binh Duc village. The class takes place from November 1 to 4, 2023, in which students practice directly and experience and learn fine art pottery making techniques at Bau Truc pottery village (Phuoc Dan town, Ninh Phuoc district, Ninh Thuan province).
Mr. Tran Xuan Phong - Deputy Director of Binh Thuan Provincial Museum said: Binh Duc pottery village is a unique and distinct traditional craft village that bears the cultural identity of the Cham community. However, the difficulties of the pottery profession in the market mechanism have impacted, causing young craftsmen to lose their passion, love for the profession, and lack diligence and willingness to learn to absorb the secrets and professional experience taught by senior artisans. Therefore, a class to teach traditional pottery techniques is necessary, creating an opportunity to preserve, conserve and develop the pottery profession forever, avoiding the risk of being lost, transformed or gradually lost over time.
This is an activity of the Project "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development" under the National Target Program on socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021 - 2030 in the province.
