This morning (October 19), Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy announced and awarded the decision to recognize the principal for the 2020-2025 term.
The 6th Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy
Previously, on October 17, the Minister of Health signed a decision to recognize the President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Accordingly, Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat, Vice President in charge of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, was recognized as the President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy for the 2020-2025 term. With this decision, Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat became the 6th President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy to date.
Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat (47 years old, from Binh Duong), started working at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2003 and has held many management positions at units under the school.
Specifically, since March 2003, Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat has been a lecturer in the Department of Pathological Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City. In September 2012, Mr. Dat held the position of Deputy Head of the Training Management Board (Faculty of Medicine); in June 2013, he became Deputy Head of the Department of Pathological Anatomy (Faculty of Medicine); from September 2015, he became Deputy Head of the Faculty of Medicine and concurrently Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine (Faculty of Nursing, Engineering and Medicine) from August 2022.
Since March 2023, Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat has been Vice Principal in charge of professional affairs and has become Vice Principal in charge of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy since August 2023 to present.
Previously, on August 17, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy announced the Resolution appointing Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Vuong Thi Ngoc Lan as Vice Principal in charge of professional affairs for the 2020-2025 term of this University.

Prioritize training in some social professions that are in great need.
At the ceremony, Permanent Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen congratulated the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy for completing all leadership positions after a long time.
Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen suggested that the Party Committee, the School Council and the School Board should first focus on reviewing the School Council's operating regulations and the school's working regulations. In particular, there should be a regulation on close coordination between the School Board and the School Board to avoid overlap. In addition, the Deputy Minister also suggested that the school should do a good job in planning, training and fostering the next generation.
Regarding professional work, the Deputy Minister suggested that the school open more majors, prioritizing training in some social majors that are in great need and shortage such as: family medicine, forensic medicine, offline emergency medicine, etc.
Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen also noted that regarding the conversion of the operating model from school to university, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy needs to have a project submitted to the competent authority for approval.
Officially handing over the baton to the new Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Tran Diep Tuan, Chairman of the University Council of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, shared more about the school's vision from now until 2030-2045. Specifically, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy is determined to develop into an international standard university, among the top 100 universities in Asia with a solid education and training foundation; have an excellent research center with strong research groups recognized globally; closely cooperate with the public and business community in research and technology transfer; have a school-based health care system with international standard specialized centers and model practice hospitals contributing to improving the Vietnamese health system.
Thus, after many years of being without a principal, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy has now officially had a principal. The school's board of directors currently consists of 3 people: Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat holds the position of Principal; 2 Vice Principals: Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Chinh and Associate Professor, Dr. Vuong Thi Ngoc Lan.
