(Fatherland) - The 2024 Hai Luu Buffalo Fighting Festival in Song Lo District, Vinh Phuc Province was held on February 25-26 (ie January 16 and 17). The final round selected the winner "Mr. Cau" and awarded prizes on the morning of February 26. This is the oldest Buffalo Fighting Festival in our country. This year's festival attracted tens of thousands of people and tourists to attend.
This year, Vinh Phuc province continues to implement the Project to innovate the management and organization of the Buffalo Fighting Festival, organizing the festival in accordance with its historical and cultural origins; continuing to reduce the number of buffaloes from 32 to 20 according to old customs and not selling tickets to watch. On February 25, only 12 matches of the first and second qualifying rounds will take place. On February 26, the semi-finals, quarter-finals and finals will take place, with prizes awarded.
According to legend, the Hai Luu Buffalo Fighting Festival dates back to the 2nd century BC (more than 2000 years ago). When the Han Dynasty invaded Nam Viet, the Trieu Dynasty collapsed, and the Nam Viet Prime Minister, General Lu Gia, retreated to the Hai Luu Mountains, Song Lo, Vinh Phuc to organize a fight against the enemy. After each victory, Lu Gia organized a Buffalo Fighting Festival to instill in the soldiers the spirit of bravery, resilience, and courage like buffalo fighters, and after the fighting, the buffaloes were slaughtered to treat the soldiers.
This year's fighting buffaloes came from 10 villages of Hai Luu commune, registered to participate, carefully selected by the buffalo owners in terms of physique, height, and weight; cared for according to proper techniques, so all the buffaloes are healthy. The matches were exciting and dramatic, bringing visitors beautiful and impressive fights.

Fighting buffaloes are called "Mr. Cau" to distinguish them from plowing buffaloes because fighting buffaloes are buffaloes that are no longer able to pull plows and are bought to be cared for and trained. For households that raise "Mr. Cau" in their homes, it is an honor. During the training period, "Mr. Cau" is given special care, fed molasses, honey, nutritious foods and trained in fighting buffalo moves. Fighting buffaloes always fight each other by facing each other, using their horns and strength to choose a fighting style to attack the opponent. Whether they win or lose, the buffaloes never attack each other from behind or the flanks, which demonstrates the martial spirit of the nation.
The organizing committee awarded 1 first prize to "Mr. Cau" with number 15, 1 second prize and 2 third prizes. The first prize was worth 60 million VND, the second prize was 50 million VND and the third prize was 20 million VND.

Up to this year, the festival has been restored for more than 20 years, becoming a famous festival, increasingly known by many people, also an occasion for spring travel at the beginning of the year with many interesting experiences that have attracted tens of thousands of tourists from all over the country, contributing to the development of local tourism culture. The festival also demonstrates the spirit of martial arts, has profound educational significance, serves the cultural and spiritual needs, prays for favorable weather, and happy families of the people.
