The Backup Data Center is a set of policies, tools and processes to enable the recovery or continuation of critical infrastructure and technology systems after natural or man-made disasters. This system also includes knowledge about models, security, disaster recovery and ensuring continuity in information technology application and digital transformation activities of state agencies and units in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ms. Vo Thi Trung Trinh, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center, said that in the context of strong digital transformation as it is today, the application of information technology has become an extremely important foundation for government agencies, organizations, and businesses in Ho Chi Minh City. As the leading cultural and socio-economic center of the country, Ho Chi Minh City has deployed many shared digital transformation systems, serving the digital transformation work for departments, districts, and units in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ms. Vo Thi Trung Trinh, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center, spoke at the workshop.

Although many achievements have been made in digital transformation, there are still many potential risks, such as natural disasters, data theft, sabotage, and increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks that can harm Ho Chi Minh City's infrastructure, affecting data security and information security.

“With these potential risks, the research and implementation of the City’s Backup Data Center is essential, not only as a solution but also as an urgent requirement. The Backup Data Center will help Ho Chi Minh City ensure continuous operation of the information system, ensure smooth operations for the government, and ensure smooth service to the people. At the same time, it will improve the ability to recover from disasters and protect important data of Ho Chi Minh City,” Ms. Vo Thi Trung Trinh emphasized at the event.

At the workshop, experts and managers in the field of information technology shared experiences and knowledge on deploying and managing backup data centers; new technologies, solutions and trends in the field of data centers and information security with modern methods, to improve the efficiency and safety of data systems. In addition, providing information on standards, legal regulations and policies of the State related to information security, data security and data center management to ensure that all activities comply with regulations.

SVTech Company representative said that the biggest threat to businesses is Ransomware cyber attacks.

According to a representative of SVTech Company, the biggest threat to the survival of businesses today is Ransomware cyber attacks. Statistics from the beginning of 2023 to now, there have been more than 13,750 cyber attacks on information systems in Vietnam causing serious incidents. Of which, in the first 3 months of this year alone, the number of cyber attacks on information systems in Vietnam was 2,323. The average life cycle of a data leak is 314 days, taking 7 months to identify and 4 months to restore.

Therefore, backing up data or establishing a backup data center is extremely important and urgent. A good backup strategy cannot prevent ransomware attacks... but it will be a lifesaver for the organization when attacked.

Dr. Trinh Ngoc Minh, Member of the Executive Committee of Vnisa in the South, shared the problem of building a backup data center in Ho Chi Minh City.

Dr. Trinh Ngoc Minh, Member of the Executive Committee of Vnisa South, said that the backup data center should be divided into 3 main components: Core applications for managing Ho Chi Minh City (email, document management, digital records, online meetings, etc.), data applications (tax, VNeID, fines, etc.), Ho Chi Minh City public service applications (Ho Chi Minh City information portal, traffic information, Ho Chi Minh City planning, etc.), business (online business platforms, online payments, etc.). In addition, Ho Chi Minh City should also build a backup data system that can prevent ransomware, to ensure the ability to provide public services and network security.

Through the workshop, the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center hopes to record comments, suggestions, and recommendations related to the model and plan of the backup data center to build a specific roadmap and plan to bring about efficiency in Ho Chi Minh City.
