Ho Chi Minh City: Dengue fever epidemic shows signs of continuous increase

The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) made this assessment when updating the latest data on dengue fever cases in Ho Chi Minh City. In week 44, Ho Chi Minh City recorded 661 cases, an increase of 21% compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks.

On the morning of November 6, Dr. Nguyen Minh Tuan, head of the dengue fever department at Children's Hospital 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, said that the number of children with dengue fever admitted to Children's Hospital 1 has increased slightly.

On the same day, the number of children with dengue fever being treated in this department was 50. According to Dr. Minh Tuan, during this time, children with dengue fever were mostly between the ages of 1-12, mostly in Ho Chi Minh City.

Similarly, Dr. Nguyen Tran Nam, Deputy Director of the City Children's Hospital, also said that the number of children with dengue fever admitted to the City Children's Hospital also increased slightly.

According to HCDC, in week 44, from October 28 to November 3, Ho Chi Minh City recorded 661 cases of dengue fever, an increase of 21% compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks.

The total number of dengue fever cases accumulated from the beginning of 2024 to week 44 is 10,641 cases. Districts with high number of cases per 100,000 people include District 1, Thu Duc City and District 7.

Notably, dengue fever has shown signs of continuous increase in the past 4 weeks, from 516 cases in week 41 to 661 cases in week 44.

The number of hospitalizations in week 44 also increased with 414 cases, an increase of 89 cases compared to the previous week, of which 113 cases were staying in other provinces (accounting for 27.3%). The average number of severe cases treated is 12 cases/day.

4. Do not let objects that can hold water accumulate water: Turn the container upside down, punch holes, clear the flow, level the areas where water accumulates, and cover to avoid rainwater.

5. Eliminate water containers: Remove scraps and collect garbage that can become mosquito habitats.

6. Regularly clean and sanitize water containers: Change water and scrub water containers periodically, no more than once every 7 days.

7. Change the form of water storage: Use directly from the tap or a tank with a tight lid.
