Ho Chi Minh City invests more than 11,000 billion to build Can Gio bridge

On December 1, the HCM City Department of Transport submitted a report to the HCM City Appraisal Council (with the Department of Planning and Investment as the standing agency) on the pre-feasibility study report of the Can Gio bridge construction investment project under the public-private partnership (PPP) method.

According to the proposal, Can Gio Bridge connecting Nha Be district with Can Gio district is about 7.3km long. In particular, the Soai Rap River overpass is nearly 3km long, the two access roads at both ends of the bridge are 4.3km long.

The starting point of the project is located on Road 15B according to the planning, about 500m north of Muong Ngang canal.

The end point of the project will connect to Rung Sac road at Km2+100 (about 2.1km south of Binh Khanh ferry terminal).

The cross-section scale is 6 lanes (4 motor lanes and 2 mixed lanes), design speed is 60km/h.

In addition, the project will build a drainage system, auxiliary works including traffic safety system; lighting, artistic lighting; Building a toll station system, surveillance cameras, planning to arrange a toll station at Km4+400 in Can Gio district (applying non-stop automatic toll collection technology, organizing unified and synchronous operations to save investment costs); installation of surveillance camera system.

The total preliminary investment of the project is about 11,087 billion VND, using the city budget (about 5,246 billion VND) and BOT capital of the investor (about 5,323 billion VND).

The project will be divided into 3 component projects. Of which, component projects 1 and 2 are the compensation, support, and resettlement parts on Nha Be and Can Gio sides using 100% of the state budget capital. Component project 3: Construction of Can Gio bridge invested in the form of PPP - Business - Operation - Transfer (BOT) contract with about 8,341 billion VND.

If approved, the Department of Transport expects the project preparation period from now until 2024; Compensation, support and resettlement work will be implemented from 2024 - 2025. After that, the bidding will be organized to select investors and start the project in 2025, completed in 2028. Toll collection period will start from 2028 - 2051.

To soon implement, the Department of Transport recommends that the City People's Committee consider and submit to the City People's Council a decision on the investment policy for the construction of Can Gio bridge. The Department of Planning and Architecture is assigned to urgently carry out local adjustments to the city's master plan and planning projects related to the Can Gio bridge construction investment project as a basis for approving the feasibility study report according to regulations.

Can Gio District is located in the Southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. Currently, this locality does not have a direct road connection to the city center. Means of transport from Can Gio District to Nha Be District to go to other areas mainly through Binh Khanh ferry terminal in the North and An Thoi Dong ferry terminal in the West. The increasing demand for traffic through Binh Khanh ferry, especially on weekends and holidays, has caused prolonged traffic congestion, affecting people, tourism activities and limiting the socio-economic development of Can Gio district.

The Department of Transport believes that the construction of Can Gio bridge to replace Binh Khanh ferry, connecting Can Gio district with the city center as well as neighboring areas is very necessary. After the bridge is built, a new traffic route will be formed directly connecting to the southern area of the city, completing the regional traffic system to exploit and effectively promote the potential and advantages of the locality, creating convenient and effective transportation services.

In addition, Can Gio district also has the Can Gio coastal urban tourism project with a scale of 2,870 hectares approved by the Prime Minister and in the future is studying the construction of Can Gio international transit port with a scale of more than 5 billion USD, so it is forecasted to have a very large traffic volume.

The Can Gio Bridge Construction Investment Project is more than VND 11,000 billion proposed to start in 2025, completed in 2028 in the form of PPP, the BOT contract is more than 23 years.

On December 1, the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City sent a report to the Ho Chi Minh City Appraisal Council (by the Department of Planning and Investment as a standing agency) on the pre -feasibility study report of Can Gio Bridge Construction Investment Project in the Method of Public Private Partnership (PPP).

According to the report, Can Gio bridge connects Nha Be district with Can Gio district with a length of about 7.3km.

The first point of the project at the location is located on the 15B road according to the plan, about 500m from the canal canal to the north.

The end point of the project will connect to the Sac forest road at the process of Km2+100 (about 2.1km south of Binh Khanh ferry).

Schedule size 6 lanes (4 motor lanes and 2 mixed lanes), design speed of 60km/h.

In addition, the project will build a drainage system, auxiliary works including traffic safety systems; lighting lights, art lighting;

The total preliminary investment of the project is about 11,087 billion dong, using the city budget capital (about 5,246 billion dong) and the BOT capital of the investor (about 5,323 billion dong).

The project will be divided into 3 component projects. In which, 2 component projects 1 and 2 are compensation, support, resettlement of Nha Be and Can Gio to use 100% of the state budget.

If approved, the Department of Transport is expected from here to 2024 is the time to prepare the project; compensation, support and resettlement will be implemented from 2024 - 2025.

In order to soon implement, the Department of Transport proposes the City People's Committee to consider and submit to the City People's Council for decision on the policy of construction of Can Gio Bridge.

Can Gio is located in the southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. Currently, this locality has no road directly connected to the city center. , tourism activities and limiting socio -economic development of Can Gio district.

The Department of Transport said that the construction of Can Gio bridge replaces Binh Khanh ferry, connecting Can Gio district with the city center as well as the surrounding areas is essential.

In addition, Can Gio district also has Can Gio Sea Tourism Urban Area project with a scale of 2,870ha approved by the Prime Minister and in the future, researching and building Can Gio international transit port with a scale of over 5 billion USD, so it is expected to have very large vehicles.
