
On the afternoon of April 2, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko.
At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam expressed his delight at the positive development of the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, especially in the context of 2025 when the two countries celebrate many important events such as the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over fascism, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and reunification of Vietnam, and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The General Secretary emphasized that over the past time, on the basis of the good traditional friendship, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries has continuously developed, continuing to consolidate political trust through exchanges, contacts and effectively implementing cooperation mechanisms; maintaining the momentum of economic cooperation growth; coordinating to promote defense-security cooperation, energy, education-training, science-technology, and people-to-people exchange.
General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam always considers Russia one of the top priority partners in its foreign policy. Vietnam wishes to maintain the good traditional relationship, meet the interests of the two peoples, and contribute to maintaining peace, cooperation and development in the two regions and the world.
General Secretary To Lam acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko and the agencies of the two countries in effectively implementing high-level agreements and bilateral cooperation contents. In particular, recent high-level delegation exchanges such as the visit to Vietnam by Russian Prime Minister Mishustin in January 2025 and the visit to Russia by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son in early April demonstrated the deep level of political trust between the two countries. This was also an opportunity for the two sides to exchange, review, evaluate and discuss specific measures to comprehensively promote bilateral cooperation.
To continue to enhance the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation, especially in 2025 on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, General Secretary To Lam suggested that the two sides continue to increase the exchange of high-level delegations; cooperate closely at multilateral forums; effectively implement the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement; identify new directions, measures and cooperation projects in the fields of defense-security, high technology, energy, nuclear power, basic science, and academic culture and arts.
In the coming time, the two sides also need to focus and make efforts to effectively implement bilateral agreements, review and completely remove existing obstacles, thereby expanding and creating breakthroughs in practical cooperation in relations between the two countries.
Sharing General Secretary To Lam's assessments and opinions on the relationship between the two countries in recent times, Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko affirmed that the Russian Federation considers Vietnam a traditional and priority partner in the Asia-Pacific region and wishes to strengthen the traditional friendship and effective cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko pledged to continue to promote relevant Russian agencies to closely cooperate with Vietnamese partners to further strengthen and deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The Ambassador and the Russian Embassy in Vietnam will strive to promote bilateral cooperation in all fields, especially in the pillar areas of military-security, trade-investment, and expand cooperation to new potential fields.
Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko also said that on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the Russian Embassy in Hanoi will organize many practical activities, reflecting the traditional friendship and good cooperation between the two countries.
Ambassador Bezdetko agreed that the Vietnam-Russia relationship has a long-standing traditional foundation, the two countries have overcome many challenges and achieved many great achievements together. The two countries are determined to continue promoting the traditional friendship, the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to become increasingly deeper, more substantial and effective, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for peace, friendship and development in the region and the world.
