TKV: High competition in labor safety and hygiene

With the theme "Strengthening occupational safety and hygiene at the workplace; improving labor productivity", the peak emulation month for occupational safety and hygiene (OSH) implementation in 2024 is being enthusiastically implemented by units in the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV).

July - The peak month of competition for occupational safety and health is widely implemented by TKV units with many activities to care for the lives and improve the working environment for workers. TKV units also implement many solutions to tighten occupational safety, striving to prevent serious occupational accidents.

In 2024, Ha Long Coal Company was assigned by the Group to produce 1.8 million tons of raw coal, dig 17,600m of new tunnels, and consume more than 1.7 million tons of coal. From the beginning of 2024 until now, along with solutions to focus on production management, Ha Long Coal Company has set the goal of ensuring labor safety as a top priority. Typically, the Company has maintained a good regime of regular safety inspection, examination, and supervision at production units; and effectively implemented safety inspections before and after long holidays. In the first 6 months of the year, the Company conducted 7 specialized inspections on occupational safety and health for units.

In particular, on July 1, at the shift change room of the workshops, the trade union of the department under the Ha Long Coal Company Trade Union coordinated with the professional organization to launch the peak emulation month to implement occupational safety and health work. The peak emulation month to implement occupational safety and health work in 2024, the Ha Long Coal Company Trade Union at all levels carried out many meaningful activities for workers, such as: Organizing visits and subsidies for those in difficult circumstances, policy beneficiaries, occupational diseases, serious work accidents; promoting propaganda for workers to comply with regulations, labor discipline, proactively implement safety work to limit incidents, occupational accidents and occupational diseases in production labor. At the same time, promoting the activities of the safety and hygiene network in detecting and identifying risks that cause unsafety, occupational hygiene, and occupational diseases. Since the beginning of 2024, the unit has not had any serious accidents, helping the Company stabilize production and business. In the first 6 months of this year alone, the Company produced 958,000 tons of coal, dug 7,380m of tunnels, and consumed 927,000 tons of coal; the average income reached more than 19.5 million VND/person/month.

At Cam Pha Mining Chemical Industry Company - the unit responsible for blasting and loosening soil and rock for open-pit coal mining companies under TKV and other units outside TKV in Quang Ninh, the Company always focuses on implementing good labor safety work, ensuring production and business efficiency. Mr. Hoang Van Su, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Cam Pha Mining Chemical Industry Company, said: From the beginning of 2024 to now, the Company has deployed many solutions to ensure safety for people and equipment during the construction and loading of blasting for open-pit coal mining units. In particular, responding to the peak month of occupational safety and health launched by the TKV Trade Union, the Company has deployed emulation to workshops and production teams. In particular, focusing on closely monitoring processes and regulations, strengthening supervision through the camera system of blasting sites from the construction of the minefield to the blasting stage to promptly remind and handle violations, if any. The company also focuses on improving working conditions for workers in hot weather and implementing safe production plans during the rainy and stormy season. These are solutions to help the unit maintain labor safety and stabilize production and business. It is expected that in the first 7 months of 2024, the volume of blasted soil and rock will reach more than 66 million m³, and explosive consumption will reach more than 29,500 tons.

Responding to the peak emulation month for implementing occupational safety and health work - July 2024 of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Union, currently, the trade unions of the establishments in the Group have been actively launching emulation to complete production and business plan targets, ensuring safety in production. Together with Ha Long Coal Company, Cam Pha Mining Chemical Industry Company, the units have increased inspection, detection, and prevention of violations of occupational safety as well as risks that can cause occupational accidents and incidents in production, eliminating risks of unsafety, minimizing occupational accidents and incidents. The trade unions of the establishments also focus on improving the quality of the occupational safety and health network, promoting the activities of occupational safety and health workers to carry out safety work, inspecting and supervising the implementation of technical processes and safety measures at production teams, construction sites, and workshops; strengthening propaganda to improve workers' responsibility and safety autonomy.

With the characteristics of the mining industry in arduous, toxic and dangerous conditions, coal mines continue to exploit deeper and farther, posing many potential safety risks. The implementation of the Peak Emulation Month to implement occupational safety and health work has been widely participated and responded to by union members and workers, creating an atmosphere of solidarity, tightening occupational safety and health, reducing serious occupational accidents, contributing to the successful implementation of TKV's production and business tasks.
