Mining is one of the most arduous occupations. Overcoming the dangers and hardships of the profession, miners work tirelessly day and night to mine each ton of “black gold” to serve the economic development of the country. Many miners working in the mines of the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group have achieved high incomes. That is a worthy result for the persistent labor contributions of the “mining warriors” in the era of industrialization and modernization.
The fruits of underground labor
Nam Mau Coal Company - TKV, one of the units with the top blast furnace coal output in the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV). The unit has many breakthrough policies to increase workers' income. Nam Mau Coal currently has over 4,200 workers. In 2024, the Company recorded 1,146 workers with an income of 300-400 million VND/year; 375 workers with an income of over 400-500 million VND/year and 25 workers with an income of over 500 million VND/year. These figures demonstrate the Company's interest and commitment to improving working conditions and salary policies for workers.
With nearly 20 years of experience as a miner, Mr. Pham Duc Thanh, Mining Workshop 4 (Nam Mau Coal Company) is a skilled worker with the highest income in the unit (average of 30 million VND/month). In 2024 alone, his average income will reach over 500 million VND (top miner in the company).

To ensure working days and labor productivity, I always learn, skillfully use new equipment and technology, and arrange work reasonably to achieve high productivity and good product quality. In addition to improved conditions in the kiln, ensuring ventilation and safety, the Company cares about the spiritual life and health of workers. At the same time, flexibly coordinate human resources between workshops to optimize productivity; apply a salary and bonus mechanism linked to labor productivity; be open and transparent in the distribution of salaries and bonuses to create motivation for work. With the policies that have been and are being implemented, the Company helps employees have a stable income, contributing to improving production efficiency. In 2025, the Company aims to increase raw coal production to 2.6 million tons, improve technology and optimize production operations to further improve workers' lives.
In the list of excellent miners with high income (over 400 million VND/year) of Ha Lam Coal Joint Stock Company, Mr. Ly Van Kinh stands out with an impressive income of nearly 500 million VND/year, an average of over 40 million VND/month. Currently, Ly Van Kinh is the miner with the highest income among ethnic minority workers working at Ha Lam Coal Joint Stock Company. The work is hard, but thanks to the stable income, I am more motivated to stick with the job.”
At Ha Lam Coal Joint Stock Company, in addition to worker Ly Van Kinh, there are many miners, especially ethnic minority miners with high income, contributing significantly to the production activities of the Company and the coal industry in general.
Improve productivity and income for workers
According to TKV statistics, many miners currently have an income of 25-30 million VND/month, some even reach 40-50 million VND/month, equivalent to about 1,500-2,000 USD. To increase labor productivity, TKV implements synchronous solutions such as innovation and modernization of technology towards improving the level of mechanization, automation and computerization. This is considered an important solution to increase output and income for workers in the coal industry.
Recently, the Group has maintained stable employment and income for employees. In particular, in 2024, after storm No. 3, units quickly arranged for employees to return to work after nearly a week of recovery. During the days of production suspension, employees were given leave and personal leave to help their families overcome the consequences of the storm and pay for their suspension. Some units encountered difficulties in production and business, but TKV promptly supported employees with salaries. Occupational safety and hygiene, and improving working conditions are tasks that TKV puts first, throughout the production and business process. The entire Group has invested in this work with a total amount of 1.4 trillion VND, equal to 101.7% of the plan.
In 2024, the average salary of the whole Group will reach 17.95 million VND/person/month, an increase of 9.2% compared to the plan and an increase of 1.1% compared to the implementation in 2023; of which the underground coal block is 20.5 million VND/person/month. After balancing production and business efficiency, TKV and its units will balance the salary fund compared to the plan; supplement the year-end salary, this is the third consecutive year that TKV has supplemented salaries for units to harmoniously share the benefits between employers and employees. Notably, in 2024, the Group will have 7 workers with an income of over 700 million VND/year, over 11,591 miners with an income of over 300 million VND/year, accounting for 47% of the total number of miners, an increase of 8% compared to the implementation in 2023.
The Group also implements industry-specific welfare policies to better care for the health and lives of workers, including 450 lung washings per year at a cost of VND22.5 billion; organizing tours for workers, orienting the construction of housing for mine workers; continuing to develop the model of transporting workers from far away to work every day by sleeper bus, helping units stabilize the workforce; implementing well the in-kind allowance regime, shift meal regime and quantitative meal regime.
Mr. Ngo Hoang Ngan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TKV, emphasized: In 2025, the Group strives for an average salary of over 18 million VND/person/month. To continue to improve productivity and income in the coming time, TKV focuses on improving working conditions for workers; continuing to review and improve the quality of building processes, regulations, and safe working measures; continuing to research policies to attract and retain workers, not only for workers working in mines, but also for technical and professional staff with university degrees in mining. At the same time, focus on directing units to implement projects to build housing for underground workers and singles in the right direction. TKV Trade Union has well implemented the Trade Union Project to participate in taking care of housing for workers in the period of 2024-2028; Continue to effectively implement the Group's restructuring project until 2025 and develop the Group's restructuring project for the next phase with the goal of streamlining the organization and improving the Group's operational efficiency, in which it is important to propose appropriate support policies and regimes for redundant workers in the process of streamlining the apparatus to ensure the rights of workers.
Miners are people who directly participate in coal mining in mines, playing an important role in the mining industry. Increasing the income of miners not only means improving the material and spiritual life of workers but also plays an important role in retaining human resources, improving productivity and production quality. When income is guaranteed, miners are motivated to work better, stick with the job for a long time, thereby helping the coal mining industry develop sustainably. This is also a demonstration of the responsibility of enterprises in caring for the rights of workers, creating a safe and stable working environment.
