To date, the province has built nearly 27 km of sea dykes, including 21.56 km of solid dykes (5.06 km in Phu Quy alone) and 5.32 km of temporary dykes. In addition to the dyke projects invested by the State, tourism establishments in the province have built 3.52 km of dykes. The protective dykes invested in and built by the State and enterprises have contributed to stabilizing the coast in many vulnerable areas, facilitating the development of tourism and marine economy, while ensuring local national security and defense.

Sea embankment protects residential areas.

According to the Management Board of Investment Projects for Construction of Agricultural Works and Rural Development of Binh Thuan Province, under the influence of extreme weather phenomena and climate change, rising sea levels have caused coastal erosion to become increasingly complex and unpredictable, leading to coastal areas without protective structures always being at risk of landslides, land loss, property damage, and loss of coastal beaches. In particular, the Ham Tien area has been affected by climate change for many years, rising sea levels causing coastal erosion; the eroded area is increasing, directly affecting the lives of people and businesses. Currently, the Management Board of Investment Projects for Construction of Agricultural Works and Rural Development of Binh Thuan Province has invested in a number of key embankment sections to protect land and property of people and businesses. However, some concrete slope embankments invested over 15 - 20 years ago have shown signs of damage and deterioration that need to be repaired; the erosion situation has increased downstream after the embankment was built; The beach is getting deeper and deeper, in some places there is no beach left...

Through actual inspection, the sea has eroded the coast of Ward 1, Ham Tien Ward with a depth of 5 - 7 m inland, about 200 m long. Therefore, to ensure the safety of people and tourists in Ham Tien area, Phan Thiet City People's Committee requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to study and find solutions to complete the construction of coastal protection embankments in Ham Tien area. In response to that urgent request, the Project to upgrade coastal protection embankments in Ward 1, Ham Tien Ward was approved by the Department of Planning and Investment on August 1, 2023 with a total capital of 17,500 billion VND from lottery capital in the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2021-2025. The project has been implemented to partly overcome the risk of landslides, loss of land, loss of coastal beaches, and damage to property of people and businesses.
