Currently in the Northern region, there are three shipping channels being dredged as planned this year, including Diem Dien channel (Thai Binh), Hon La channel (Quang Binh), Thuan An channel (Thua Thien - Hue). Only Hai Thinh shipping channel has been completed dredging.
Of which, the Diem Dien waterway started construction in July and is expected to be completed in October. The project has an estimated dredging volume of 295,000m3 with a total cost of about 45.9 billion VND.
The Hon La navigation channel dredging project aims to dredge the channel to a depth of -8.2m, with a total cost of about 17.5 billion VND. According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration, the project is on schedule and has not been much affected by recent floods.
As part of this year's dredging maintenance plan, two shipping channels in Hai Phong (Lach Huyen section) and Cua Lo (Nghe An) are being bid for contractors. The Cua Lo dredging project has a total cost of about 48.2 billion VND, aiming to dredge to a standard depth of -7.2m and is expected to start construction in October.
A representative of the Vietnam Maritime Administration informed that in recent days, the stormy weather situation has been complicated, so it is expected that the actual dredging volume of the Hai Phong waterway will increase compared to the actual due to sedimentation.
Therefore, after selecting a contractor, the investor will re-measure the channel to determine the actual dredging volume.
Hai Phong navigation channel dredging project (Lach Huyen section) with a total estimated dredging volume of about 1.8 million m3 and a total cost of more than 342 billion VND. The project has been approved by Hai Phong City People's Committee for the dumping location of dredged material at the land area of Hai Phong international gateway port of Xuan Cau - Lach Huyen Investment Joint Stock Company.
"It is expected that by October at the latest, the Hai Phong maritime channel project can start construction to be completed by the end of 2024," a representative of the Vietnam Maritime Administration shared, adding that in case the weather conditions at the end of the year are complicated and stormy, causing adverse effects on the construction progress, the investor will require contractors to supplement and strengthen means and equipment to increase construction productivity, ensuring to meet the set schedule.
