Billionaire Jack Ma returns, sending a message about AI

This is the first time billionaire Jack Ma has spoken to Ant Group since the company was blocked from launching an initial public offering (IPO) on the Shanghai and Hong Kong stock exchanges in November 2020.

The South China Morning Post reported that Chinese billionaire Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba Group, gave a rare public speech at the anniversary celebration of Ant Group - the financial technology arm of Alibaba Group - on the evening of December 8.

The 60-year-old billionaire said he believes in "the next 20 years of Ant Group" and expects "more miracles".

Jack Ma's attendance at the event marked the first time he has spoken publicly about Ant Group since Chinese authorities blocked the company from going public on the Shanghai and Hong Kong stock exchanges in November 2020.

The photo posted by technology news site 36Kr shows Mr. Jack Ma sitting between Mr. Eric Jing Xiandong (chairman of Ant Group) and Ms. Peng Lei (co-founder of Alibaba and Alipay).

In his brief speech, billionaire Jack Ma - one of the founders of Ant Group - congratulated the company's achievements.

Despite stepping down from corporate roles and avoiding drawing attention to himself in recent years, Mr. Jack Ma is still seen as the spiritual leader of the “empire” he created and the face of China’s private sector.

"20 years ago, the internet was just starting and my generation was fortunate to grasp the opportunities that the internet brought. From today's perspective, the changes that artificial intelligence (AI) will bring in the next 20 years will be beyond people's imagination as AI will bring a bigger era," Mr. Jack Ma added.

"AI will change everything, but it doesn't mean AI can dictate everything. Although technology plays an important role, the truth that determines success or failure is whether we can create valuable and unique things in the coming era," the Chinese entrepreneur noted.

Billionaire Jack Ma said Ant Group will continue to use technology to bring "progress and change" to people's lives over the next two decades.

Ant Group did not release any statements by billionaire Jack Ma, but the content of his speech and the video of his speech have been spread on Chinese social networks.
