Promoting effective and positive cooperation between the state of California and Vietnam

On the afternoon of August 1, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received a delegation of officials and businesses from the state of California (USA) led by Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao who are on a working visit to Vietnam.

At the reception, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always considers the United States one of its top important partners, wishing to continue promoting the bilateral relationship to develop substantially and effectively for the benefit of the people of the two countries, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated the good relations between Vietnam and the state of California in general and the city of Oakland in particular, especially in terms of trade and port cooperation; emphasizing that the state of California is one of Vietnam's leading local partners with nearly 100 state enterprises investing in Vietnam, and Vietnamese enterprises also have more than 70 investment projects in California.

The Prime Minister said that the two sides have great potential for cooperation in economics, trade, investment, science and technology, energy conversion, high technology, innovation, education and training, and startups. Accordingly, the two sides need to maintain and promote positive cooperation momentum.

The Prime Minister asked the Mayor of Oakland and officials of the state of California to continue to pay attention to developing relations with Vietnam, especially in economics, trade, investment and people-to-people exchange, acting as a bridge between the United States and Vietnam in general and between businesses of the two countries in particular, contributing to further promoting and strengthening Vietnam-US relations.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hopes that Oakland city will continue to encourage exchange activities, delegation exchanges, and information sharing, thereby enhancing understanding between the city's residential communities and Vietnamese localities, and supporting the Vietnamese community to do business, live, and integrate well into the local community.

Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao expressed his deep impression of the dynamic development and beauty of the country and people of Vietnam; highly appreciated the positive developments in the relationship between the two countries in recent times; and thanked the Vietnamese ministries, branches and localities for the warm welcome given to the delegation.

The Mayor affirmed that Oakland will promote to further strengthen the friendship and effective and substantive cooperation with Vietnam in the areas of strength of Oakland and the state of California, especially in transportation, logistics, high-tech manufacturing, digital economy, innovation, etc., thereby actively contributing to the development of relations between the state of California and Vietnam.

During the visit, the delegation met with leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee and the Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, the Vietnam - US Parliamentary Friendship Group, and leaders of the People's Committees of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang City, Quang Nam Province and Long An Province; and organized meetings with businesses in these localities.
