Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh receives Chairman of SK Group, Korea

On the afternoon of February 14, at the Government Office, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group and Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). This is a multi-industry economic group with a market capitalization of nearly 200 billion USD, ranking second in Korea and among the top 100 largest corporations globally, and has invested about 3.5 billion USD in Vietnamese enterprises in many fields.

Assessing that Vietnam is developing its economy rapidly with increasing energy demand, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won said that the Group is continuing to seek opportunities to increase support and cooperation for Vietnam's high, long-term, and sustainable economic growth and development.

Discussing the group's investment orientation in the coming time, especially in the fields of energy, agriculture, logistics, warehousing, artificial intelligence, etc., promoting cooperation in the fields in Vietnam mentioned by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won proposed building large-scale LNG power plants, on that basis continuing to develop new energy centers associated with the development of artificial intelligence, logistics, hydrogen, environmentally friendly agriculture and innovation.

Mr. Chey Tae-won affirmed that the above projects will bring positive impacts, not only contributing to Vietnam's socio-economic development, ensuring electricity, developing key industries, attracting investment, reducing CO2 emissions, but also creating jobs and possibly improving the trade balance with many of Vietnam's major economic partners through the import of raw materials.

SK Group wishes to strengthen cooperation with the Vietnam National Innovation Center (NIC) through human resource training programs, research on hydrogen, artificial intelligence, etc.; and organize forums of Korean economic and academic circles in Hanoi.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the performance of SK Group globally; at the same time, it is one of the major investors, investing in many large corporations and groups in Vietnam. The Group has begun to directly invest and establish subsidiaries in Vietnam's priority areas, starting with a project specializing in the production of high-tech biodegradable materials with a total investment of up to 500 million USD.

The Prime Minister said that the Vietnam-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is developing well; the two sides are strengthening cooperation in various fields, especially connecting the two economies and businesses. Vietnam is also consulting and learning from Korea's experience to achieve at least 8% growth in 2025 and double-digit growth in the coming decades to become a developed, high-income country.

Informing that Vietnam is focusing on implementing three strategic breakthroughs in institutions, infrastructure, and human resources, the Prime Minister fully agreed with and welcomed the proposals of SK Group and suggested that the Group continue to advise, support, and invest in key areas: Research and development of artificial intelligence, database construction; development of transport infrastructure, logistics; energy and electricity infrastructure, especially clean electricity, nuclear power, LNG power, wind power, solar power, hydrogen; green agriculture, clean agriculture; human resource training.

Along with that, SK Group increases capital support, technology transfer, human resource training, connecting Vietnamese enterprises to participate in the Group's global value chains, including supply chains in the semiconductor packaging and testing sector.

Appreciating SK Group's deep participation and active support for NIC through cooperation activities in the field of semiconductor engineering training, the Prime Minister suggested that the Group continue to cooperate with NIC to operate more effectively, supporting the formation of a science and technology ecosystem, innovation and digital transformation of NIC and Vietnam in the world.
