Regarding the activities of the United Nations, the organization currently has 193 member states. The United Nations is a mechanism for member states to promote similarities, jointly solve problems and make common decisions on global issues such as peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, etc. The General Assembly is the most representative and comprehensive policy-making body of the United Nations, consisting of all 193 member states, all of whom are equal, regardless of size, each member state has one vote. Every September, heads of state and leaders of UN member states gather at the organization's headquarters in New York (USA) to begin the General Debate of the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly. Vietnam officially joined the United Nations in September 1977. Over the past 40 years, the Vietnam-United Nations cooperation relationship has contributed to protecting and promoting Vietnam's national interests, especially maintaining and consolidating a peaceful, secure and favorable environment for national development. This relationship also promotes deeper international integration and contributes to enhancing Vietnam's position and image in the international arena; deepening Vietnam's relations with other countries and partners, and mobilizing an important resource for national development. Vietnam has proactively and increasingly substantially contributed to the activities of the United Nations, participating in the discussion and adoption of many important resolutions and declarations of the United Nations on development cooperation, preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, combating terrorism, and ensuring human rights. Vietnam has also actively promoted initiatives to reform the United Nations, and is considered one of the leading countries in implementing the United Nations' "Delivering as One" initiative to increase the effectiveness of the United Nations' operations at the national level. With its contributions, Vietnam has been elected to many important positions and agencies of the United Nations and has left many "imprints" of Vietnam at agencies such as the United Nations Security Council, the United Nations Human Rights Council, and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). After completing foreign affairs events in the US, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will pay an official visit to Brazil, hold talks with President Lula da Silva, meet with leaders of the Brazilian Congress, and have a number of other important activities. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam has received more than 61.7 million vaccine doses through the COVAX Program and medical supplies worth US$45 million from United Nations organizations. Vietnam has also contributed US$50,000 to the UN Covid-19 Response Fund, US$1 million to COVAX, and is preparing to make an additional voluntary contribution of US$500,000 to COVAX. In the context of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Vietnam has also contributed US$500,000 to humanitarian relief activities to support people affected by the war in Ukraine.
