Prime Minister proposes Yamato Group to open logistics centers in Vietnam

On the afternoon of February 17, at the Government Office, receiving Mr. Nagao Yutaka, Chairman of Yamato Holdings Group, Japan, who is visiting and working in Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed that Yamato Holdings Group, together with investment in applying science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, green transformation, and training of human resources in the transportation industry, will invest in developing logistics centers in Vietnam.

Thanking Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for taking the time to meet him, Mr. Nagao Yutaka said that Yamato Group is a leading shipping company, accounting for about 46% of the home delivery service market share in Japan, with 20 billion packages delivered to each household each year. The Group currently has more than 7,000 offices in 23 countries, with a revenue of about 10 billion USD/year.

Mr. Nagao Yutaka said that Japan is facing an aging population, thus, there is a shortage of labor in the transportation industry, specifically truck drivers. The Group wishes to invest in building a Professional Driver Training Center in Vietnam; establish an AI Laboratory to research and apply AI and information technology to the transportation industry... Thereby, providing human resources and technology in the transportation industry for both Vietnam and Japan.

Welcoming the Chairman and Board of Directors of Yamato Holdings Group to visit and work in Vietnam; highly appreciating the Group's projects that are currently being coordinated and researched and implemented with FPT Group, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh believes that these projects will contribute positively to the development of Vietnam's Logistics industry, as well as the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Japan.

Expressing his delight at witnessing the increasingly strong, substantive and effective development of the bilateral relationship in all areas with high political trust, especially after Vietnam and Japan upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the world in 2023, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Japan continues to be Vietnam's leading economic partner and the number one labor cooperation partner. The Vietnamese community is the second largest foreign community in Japan. Japan is also the third largest investor and the fourth largest trade and tourism partner of Vietnam.

Stating that Vietnam has great potential and advantages for developing transportation and logistics, with a market of 100 million people, being the country with the world's leading e-commerce development, and having set a double-digit growth target in the coming years, the Prime Minister suggested that Yamato Holdings Group actively coordinate with Vietnamese enterprises, especially FPT Group, to apply the most advanced technologies to enhance competitiveness and sustainable development in the Vietnamese transportation industry on a larger scale and at a faster speed.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that in the coming time, Yamato Holdings should strengthen and expand its investment and business activities in Vietnam, not only in the field of transportation, but also in areas where the Group has strengths such as logistics, finance, insurance, information technology; cooperate, support, and transfer technology with Vietnamese partners, helping Vietnam participate more deeply in the regional and global supply chain.

Yamato Holdings supports attracting investment in Vietnam's logistics industry, continues to promote the flow of development assistance capital, green finance and investment from Japan into Vietnam; increases support, provides scholarships, cooperates with training institutions to train high-quality human resources for Vietnam, especially to meet the needs of the logistics industry in the future. At the same time, consider opening logistics centers in Vietnam, such as the logistics zone in Bac Ninh or Bac Giang, around Gia Binh Airport.

Appreciating the potential and development prospects of Vietnam, the Chairman of Yamato Holdings Group said that, along with human resource training, technology application, digital transformation, data science, artificial intelligence in the development of the transportation and logistics industry in Vietnam, Yamato Group will research and cooperate with Vietnamese partners to expand investment in developing industries serving the development of the semiconductor industry ecosystem in Vietnam and other industries and fields as proposed by the Prime Minister.
