Semi-trailer involved in 6-death accident in Son La has expired inspection

(NLDO) - The semi-trailer truck involved in the accident that killed 6 people in Son La was determined by the Registration Department to have had its inspection expired for nearly a month.

Regarding the traffic accident that occurred on National Highway 6 through Son La on the night of February 21, which killed 6 people and injured 9 others, looking up vehicle information showed that the passenger bus and the tractor-trailer had valid inspections, however, the semi-trailer being pulled by the tractor-trailer had expired inspections.

On February 22, information from the Vietnam Register said that after extracting data about the vehicles involved in the accident, it was found that the passenger bus with license plate 26F-009.08 was a sleeper bus, brand THACO, manufactured in 2015, with an expiration date until 2035.

The vehicle owner is Dao The V. (with an address in Chieng Sinh ward, Son La city), the vehicle is registered for transportation business, and has a journey monitoring device installed. The maximum number of people allowed to be carried by the passenger car is 46 people (including 2 seats, 44 beds).

The passenger car was last inspected on November 2, 2024 at Inspection Center 2601D (Son La), with inspection expiration date until May 2, 2025.

Tractor truck with license plate 36C - 095.93, CNHTC brand, manufactured in 2014, with an expiration date until 2039. The vehicle owner is Hai Nam General Company Limited (located in Dong Tho, Thanh Hoa City, Thanh Hoa Province). The number of people allowed to carry is 1 person, the vehicle is registered for transportation business, and has a journey monitoring device installed.

The tractor was last inspected on January 24, 2025 at Inspection Center 3612D (Thanh Hoa), with inspection expiration date until July 23, 2025.

Meanwhile, the semi-trailer with license plate 36R-004.73, also owned by Hai Nam General Company Limited, was manufactured in 2014, last inspected on January 26, 2024, and the registration expires on January 25, 2025. Thus, if at the time of the accident the vehicle owner had not yet brought the semi-trailer for inspection, the vehicle was nearly 1 month past its inspection deadline.

Previously, as reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper , at around 11:30 p.m. on February 21, at km235+100 of National Highway 6 in Thin village, Sap Vat commune, Yen Chau district, Son La, a road traffic accident occurred between a passenger car with license plate 26F-009.08 driven by Nguyen Dinh Hung (born in 1983, residing in Phu Luu Te, My Duc, Hanoi) traveling in the direction of Son La - Hanoi and a tractor-trailer with license plate 30C-095.93 pulling a semi-trailer with license plate 36R-004.73 driven by Do Xuan T. (year of birth and place of residence unknown) traveling in the opposite direction.

On the morning of February 22, Son La Provincial Police announced that they had initiated a criminal case and made an emergency arrest of Nguyen Dinh Hung, the bus driver involved in the accident.

According to the authorities, based on the preliminary investigation results, the cause of the accident was due to rain, slippery road surface, the bus driver could not control the speed, so when turning, the rear half of the vehicle was thrown into the opposite lane and collided with the tractor trailer. Tests for alcohol and drug levels in the body of driver Nguyen Dinh Hung were both negative.
