According to a press release from the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will pay an official visit to India from August 19-21.

According to the New Straits Times newspaper, this is Mr. Ibrahim's first visit to India as Prime Minister since taking office in November 2022.
During the visit, Anwar Ibrahim will meet his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, where the two sides are expected to review current cooperation and explore initiatives to further strengthen Malaysia-India relations, which were elevated to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership in 2015.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will also meet with host country President Droupadi Murmu.
Mr Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to deliver a speech titled “Towards a Rising Global South: Leveraging the Malaysia-India Relationship” at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA).
To promote bilateral economic cooperation, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will participate in a roundtable meeting with several Indian industry leaders.
In 2023, total trade between Malaysia and India reached RM76.62 billion (US$16.53 billion), with Malaysia posting a surplus of RM15.89 billion (US$3.43 billion). India is the largest importer of palm oil and palm oil products from Malaysia, worth US$2.44 billion.
Malaysia's main imports from India include petroleum products ($1.44 billion) and agricultural products, including halal meat products ($1.27 billion).
In 2023, Malaysia was India's third largest trading partner among ASEAN member states and the largest among eight South Asian countries.
