On the afternoon of November 15, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with representatives of outstanding teachers and education managers to celebrate Vietnam Teachers' Day. At the meeting, representatives of teachers and education managers shared many stories, difficulties and aspirations with the Head of Government.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged that the nature of the profession requires each teacher to constantly strive to improve new knowledge, skills, and cultivate qualities, ideals, and beliefs. In the mind of a student, as a former teacher and also a parent, the Prime Minister shared many memories of the teaching profession.
"November 20 is the day for generations of students to express their feelings and gratitude to their teachers. That is the culture and tradition of respecting teachers of the nation," the Prime Minister emphasized. Throughout the history of the nation, education has always been the fundamental pillar in building and nurturing civilization and preserving the national cultural identity. It is in the most difficult period that education shines brightly, overcoming all difficulties and adversities to create miracles with the nation.

Since the feudal period, the image of Ong Do has become a symbol of intelligence, of elegant character, and is admired by the people. During the years of fighting for national liberation, the education sector has successfully completed the task of "eradicating ignorance, eliminating illiteracy", nurturing human resources, training talented people, forging ideals, nurturing dreams and ambitions... making great contributions to the cause of national unification.
There were times when teachers appeared as a choice of history, that was the iron will to devote himself to finding a way to save the country of the young teacher Nguyen Tat Thanh from Duc Thanh school; it was teacher Vo Nguyen Giap who decided to put down his chalk, join the Viet Minh Front to join the army and people to create the Dien Bien Phu victory "famous in five continents, shaking the earth"; it was also many generations of teachers and their students who put down their studies and went to fight to protect the fatherland.
In the process of innovation and integration, the education sector is constantly researching and innovating to realize the major goals in the education development strategy: Improving people's knowledge, training human resources, nurturing talents to serve the cause of national development and successful international integration.
Especially after implementing the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress and Resolution No. 29-NQ/TW on fundamental and comprehensive innovation of education and training, the education sector has achieved great achievements.
Expressing his joy at seeing the quality of education and training being increasingly improved, the Prime Minister emphasized the nation's tradition of studiousness - always striving to improve, and yearning to contribute. "The golden pages of education and training are written by generations of teachers", the Prime Minister acknowledged and praised the efforts of the education sector to overcome many difficulties and challenges to assert itself.
After listening to the teachers, the Prime Minister believes that teachers are shining examples for students to follow. There are many exemplary teachers; among them are teachers who do well in both teaching and scientific research, as well as in management.
Many teachers in remote, isolated, and especially disadvantaged areas have put aside their personal concerns to go to the village every day, carrying letters up the mountain, bringing the light of knowledge to their fellow countrymen.
“The Government understands, sympathizes, and shares the difficulties and hardships that teachers have faced in recent years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,” the Prime Minister acknowledged and praised the tireless contributions of teachers and the entire education sector.
Emphasizing the motto: "Taking students as the center and subject - Teachers as the driving force - School as the support - Family as the fulcrum - Society as the foundation", the Prime Minister suggested that the education sector should absorb the direction of General Secretary To Lam when drafting the Law on Teachers - When promulgated, the Law must create a welcome and excitement for teachers.
The education sector needs to proactively develop guidance documents after the draft Law on Teachers is issued. The Prime Minister requested that it is necessary to complete the institutions in the education sector to ensure suitability, feasibility, comprehensiveness, and inclusiveness, contributing to promoting the development of the education sector.
In addition, there needs to be a mechanism to mobilize resources to increasingly improve teaching and learning facilities, on par with developed countries. The Prime Minister hopes that the teaching staff will be increasingly high-quality, comprehensive and more passionate about their profession.
Representative of outstanding teachers spoke.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son affirmed that the Party, State and Government always pay special attention and prioritize the development of teachers, considering this an important factor in the process of fundamental and comprehensive educational innovation.
The Minister also frankly raised the difficulties and challenges in developing the teaching force such as: Ensuring teachers' lives; ensuring appropriate teaching staff structure between regions and areas; local shortage of teachers in many localities... One of the biggest challenges of this period is creating a legal corridor to ensure the role, position and rights of teachers.
To overcome the above limitations, according to the Minister, the education and training sector needs to focus on clearly identifying short-term and long-term tasks that need to be implemented. The Ministry continues to coordinate with the Ministry of Home Affairs to review the number of staffing targets and the current number of teachers in localities to report to the Central Government to supplement the education sector's staffing for the 2024-2025 school year. At the same time, direct localities to recruit enough staff assigned by competent authorities and overcome the shortage of teachers.
