Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has just signed the Prime Minister's telegram on urgently studying and investing in the construction of a new Phong Chau bridge on National Highway 32C connecting Tam Nong and Lam Thao districts, Phu Tho province.

On September 9, the rising water level on the Red River caused the collapse of Phong Chau bridge on National Highway 32C connecting Tam Nong district and Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province, causing great damage to people and property and disrupting traffic on National Highway 32C.

The Prime Minister has issued an official dispatch directing the overcoming of the consequences of the bridge collapse and ensuring safe traffic during the flood season, especially in the Northwestern provinces.

To quickly resolve the traffic disruption and facilitate traffic on National Highway 32C and Tam Nong district, the Prime Minister assigned the People's Committee of Phu Tho province to take the lead and coordinate with the Ministry of Transport and relevant agencies to immediately conduct research, survey, and complete investment preparation procedures for the project to build a new Phong Chau bridge on National Highway 32C, ensuring solidity and safety in all rain and flood conditions; and report to competent authorities before October 1.

The Prime Minister also assigned the Ministers of Transport, Agriculture and Rural Development, Planning and Investment, and Finance to direct, coordinate closely, and proactively guide Phu Tho province to complete the project investment preparation procedures as soon as possible; balance and arrange capital sources to implement the project, and report to the Prime Minister before September 20.

Phong Chau Bridge connecting Tam Nong and Lam Thao districts (Phu Tho province) collapsed two spans on the morning of September 9, causing 3 cars, 6 motorbikes, and an electric motorbike to fall into the river. Three people were rescued, two bodies were found, and 6 people are still missing.

Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee requested the Prime Minister to pay attention to directing and assigning the province to implement investment procedures for 2 projects including: Construction of a new bridge to replace the old Phong Chau bridge with an expected scale of: length 430m, width 21.5m, total investment of 865 billion VND (100% supported by the central budget).

Reinforce and upgrade the weak dike and embankment sections and flood-prevention wall system on the left and right dikes of Thao River (combining National Highways 2D and 32C); estimated scale of 18km (National Highway 2D section is 12km, National Highway 32C section is 6km); total investment of 250 billion VND (100% supported by the central budget).
