Ms. Nguyen Lien, Google representative, said that at this time, Google is committed to coordinating with the governments of ASEAN countries in responding to fake news and false news.

“In ASEAN, we have cooperation between the government and non-governmental organizations. We will take note of the proposals from Vietnam and other countries. In fact, we need to have more specific discussions with each relevant ministry. From there, we can have appropriate activities,” said Ms. Lien.

TikTok representative shared at the forum.

According to a TikTok representative, the platform has a common commitment to governments to ensure safety in cyberspace. In addition, TikTok also promotes technology to "filter" content.

“We will have proactive interactions on content, there needs to be a balance of information control with media posts in each country.

In addition, we propose that, in addition to expert advice, we always update our policies for development. This is a complex field, so we need to cooperate, not only in training but also in taking actions to handle misinformation," he added.

Anti-fake news solutions for ASEAN members to consider for coordination

Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Lam discussed with delegates at the forum.

Second, encourage effective communication through official channels, such as spokesperson mechanisms, improving the capacity of journalists, diversifying media...

Third, technological advancement – the application of technology in scanning, detecting and processing information to identify, forecast trends and support decision making.

Fourth, there is a need to promote cooperation among ASEAN member states, social media - a major vehicle for spreading fake news - and artificial intelligence to combat disinformation.

Finally, there is a need for continued policy updates among member states and other stakeholders to effectively address the common challenge of fake news.

Through our joint efforts, we aim to make ASEAN more resilient and responsive in an ever-changing world, towards a people-oriented, people-centered and rules-based ASEAN community. We encourage meaningful participation of our people, civil society and other stakeholders in the ASEAN community-building process.

For Vietnam, we have gathered valuable information and practical experience from ASEAN countries and stakeholders in combating disinformation. I hope that we can explore more opportunities for cooperation and knowledge sharing in the future,” the Deputy Minister emphasized.
