In 2022, after his family's durian products were certified to meet VietGAP standards, Mr. Dang Van Xuan realized that organic agriculture brings safe products and improves fertility for the garden. On the 4-hectare durian growing area, he boldly replaced chemical fertilizers and pesticides with organic products and biological organic methods in his family's durian growing model.

Mr. Xuan shared that pest control without using chemicals during the process of planting and caring for durian trees requires a lot of effort, knowledge about the growth and development characteristics of the plant, as well as how to use biological products effectively. He visited successful models, along with self-study from books, on social networking sites, and participated in training programs and agricultural seminars organized by the locality. Along with the experience gained from reality, his family's durian garden has brought about clear economic efficiency, while contributing to environmental protection.

Sharing more experiences in growing durian sustainably, Mr. Xuan said: “Instead of using herbicides when taking care of the garden like before, I now use a lawn mower to protect the natural microorganisms in the soil. This is a job that must be done regularly, because weeds grow very quickly, always competing for nutrients from the durian trees. I also invested in an automatic watering system, saving water, helping the durian trees receive the necessary amount of water, while reducing labor and limiting waste of resources.”

In order to meet and expand the consumption market, stabilize the output for durian, as well as enhance the brand of Binh Duong durian, Mr. Xuan has linked up with other durian farmers in the area to unify production standards, improve product quality, prices and always proactively work with traders to have stable output. In particular, he has made efforts to apply for a growing area code for the durian growing area. This opens up opportunities for durian export and increases product value for farmers.

Currently, Mr. Xuan has expanded this model to 5 hectares, with 750 durian trees, of which about 400 trees have been harvested with an average yield of more than 40 tons/year. After deducting expenses, he earns a profit of more than 2 billion VND each year. Regarding exports, his durian products are mainly sold to the Chinese market.

“Applying organic farming methods helps reduce impacts on the soil environment, increases the life of plants, is environmentally friendly, improves product quality, meets the increasing demands of the market, and protects consumers. At the same time, this is also a solution to contribute to raising the brand of Binh Duong durian in the market,” said Mr. Xuan.

The application of organic methods and sustainable farming techniques such as Mr. Dang Van Xuan's durian growing model not only brings economic benefits to his family but also helps protect the environment, minimize negative impacts on the ecosystem and protect resources for future generations, contributing to the development of Binh Duong's durian products. For many consecutive years, Mr. Dang Van Xuan has been awarded the "Outstanding Binh Duong Farmer" Award by the Provincial Farmers' Association.
