Try your hand at making Dong Ho paintings and pottery in the 700-year-old village featured in the MV Bac Bling

Many young people quickly registered for tickets to join the tour to explore Bac Ninh on two weekends from now until the end of June 2025.

On a weekend morning, even though it was only 6:30, many tourists, including many young people from Thai Nguyen, Hanoi, and Ha Nam, were already at the Bac Ninh Museum (Bac Ninh city, Bac Ninh), waiting for their turn to get tickets to explore Bac Ninh.

Leave at 5am to join the tour to explore Bac Ninh

Everyone is excited to see famous landmarks of Bac Ninh such as Dong Ho painting village, Phu Lang pottery village... through the MV Bac Bling which has just reached over 100 million views on YouTube by singer Hoa Minzy.

While waiting for the bus to pick her up, Phuong Linh - a third-year student at Phuong Dong University - said she had to stay up all night to register online for a free tour to explore Bac Ninh, but the system had an error and she could only book a seat the next morning.

Before departure date, Linh received a call from the organizer to confirm, inform about the time, ticket distribution location and sightseeing locations.

Because Bac Ninh is next to Hanoi, Linh invited 2 other young people to go with her. The group of 3 people went by motorbike from 5am to have more time to have breakfast and take check-in photos before boarding the bus.

“As soon as we got on the bus, the passengers and I were surprised when Ms. Tham welcomed us with Bac Ninh folk songs such as Moi Trau (Inviting Betel) and Khach Den Choi Nha (Come Home) .” She sang very charmingly, and everyone liked it because it was the first time they heard her sing live, Linh said with a smile.

The bus will then take visitors to places such as Cao Lo Vuong Temple, Le Chi Vien Temple... In addition to the tour guide telling stories, the elderly will tell visitors ancient stories associated with the artifacts. Phuong Linh confided that this was the first time she had been to the lychee garden where the Le Chi Vien unjust case happened, which was recounted in books and newspapers.

Make paintings and pottery by yourself

During the journey to explore Bac Ninh, visitors can also experience making paintings in Dong Ho village and pottery making in Phu Lang village.

Around 11:30, everyone will go to Dong Ho folk painting village (Thuan Thanh town) to hear about the meaning of the paintings and watch artists perform dances.

Instructed by an artisan from Bac Ninh to print a picture, Phuong Linh carefully placed the printing board on the picture, then rubbed the ink evenly, gradually the details in the picture "child riding a buffalo and playing the flute" appeared.

“I chose the painting "a child riding a buffalo and playing the flute" because of the peaceful, gentle scene of the countryside, very suitable to hang as a souvenir at home. It looks simple but is difficult to do by hand, I have to skillfully align the corners so that the printed color does not smudge, the image stands out clearly", Linh confided.

Phuong Linh proudly shows off the results after experiencing printing Clock paintings under the guidance of artisans in Bac Ninh.

By noon, when everyone feels hungry, visitors are guided to the area to enjoy traditional dishes of Kinh Bac land such as crab rice cake, Mao Dien rice rolls, Bui spring rolls, rice cakes...

In the early afternoon, the group set off for Phu Lang pottery village (Que Vo town), which is nearly 700 years old. According to the tour guide, Phu Lang pottery is special thanks to its wood-fired firing technique and its distinctive eel-skin glaze.

The glaze color of Phu Lang pottery is beautiful, durable, rustic but strong, containing the primitive beauty of earth and fire, demonstrating the high skills of artisans in shaping.

Engrossed in making pottery, the young couple Nguyen Van Tien and Nguyen Thi Linh (from Ha Nam) said that this was the first time they had made a complete ceramic cup by themselves. Before the trip, Linh carefully chose a red ao dai to check-in at Dong Ho painting village and Phu Lang pottery village in the MV Bac Bling.

How to register for a tour?

Regarding how to register for the free Bac Ninh discovery tour, from 0:00 on March 20, 2025, the organizing committee will no longer accept direct registration. Visitors need to register online via the Electronic Information Portal of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Bac Ninh here and the QR code.

Each seat is for one person only, so when participating in the free tour, visitors must not bring children under 6 years old. When there are enough participants, the registration portal will be notified and automatically closed. Cancellation time is 24 hours in advance.
