Quoc Binh, valedictorian of the 10th grade specialized class in Ho Chi Minh City with 46.75/50 points, has loved IT since 6th grade and dreams of becoming a programming engineer like the father of Flappy Bird - Nguyen Ha Dong.

Pham Quoc Binh, a former student of Pham Dinh Ho Secondary School, District 6, scored 8 in Literature; 9.75 in English, 10 in Math and 9.5 in specialized Math in the 10th grade public exam in Ho Chi Minh City in mid-June. With this result, Binh was admitted to the 10th grade specialized in IT at Le Hong Phong High School.

Binh said he was surprised to get an 8 in Literature because this is not his strong subject. "When I read the newspaper, I found out that I was the valedictorian of the city's 10th grade class," Binh shared.

Previously, the male student was admitted to the IT specialized class of the Gifted High School, Ho Chi Minh City National University, with 34.25/50 points.

Binh said he liked and spent a lot of time on Math since grade 5, but when he was in grade 6 and had a lot of exposure to Computer Science, he realized that this was his passion. The male student said this was fortunate because Math and Computer Science are closely related to each other, to be good at Computer Science, you must first be good at Math.

"I realized the fun of Computer Science when I learned about the Pascal programming language. From there, I learned other programming languages on my own. From a series of commands and dry algorithms, I can turn them into a lively website. I really like it," Binh said.

To satisfy his passion, from grade 7, Binh asked his parents to let him take extra classes at the Information Technology Center of the University of Natural Sciences. He learned additional programming languages outside the curriculum such as Java script, HTML, graphics, network infrastructure (ccna), network systems (mcsa). At home, he is self-studying the Unity game programming language and Blender graphics to practice writing simple games.

"I really like Mr. Nguyen Ha Dong, I hope he can be successful as a programmer and game developer like he did with Flappy Bird," Binh said.

Currently, students taking the entrance exam to the 10th grade IT major take Math, so Binh spends a lot of time on this subject. To study well, Binh practices solving many different types of Math problems, then through the solutions or mistakes, he understands and remembers the knowledge, creating a foundation for challenging himself with more difficult problems. The male student believes that thanks to early orientation and reviewing from grade 7, he is not under too much pressure.

Binh likes playing games but he follows the time set by his mother so as not to affect his studies and rest time. After school, when he finishes his homework, he has about an hour to play games. In addition, every week he plays soccer and swims to improve his health and mobility.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, the homeroom teacher of grade 9, was impressed with Binh because he was small like a "pepper boy" but very good at studying. He showed his talent for math when he was in grade 6. In the city-level excellent student competition at the beginning of last year, Binh also won first prize in math.

Ms. Loan said that Binh has a talent for remembering things quickly and for a long time, showing a passion for computers and software. Once, the computer had an error during a presentation, after class, Ms. Loan asked Binh to look at it and an hour later he was able to fix it.

Binh decided to enroll in the Gifted High School. He aims to participate in many IT and Math competitions in the next three years.
