Free swimming classes have helped disadvantaged students in Ha Tinh have more conditions to practice their health as well as swimming skills to protect themselves from drowning accidents.
Since the beginning of the dry season, the Duc Giang Primary School (Vu Quang) swimming pool has been bustling with children coming to learn to swim for free. It is known that this is an activity organized by the Commune Youth Union in coordination with the school to improve skills to prevent drowning accidents for children in the area.
Children learn to swim for free at Duc Giang Primary School swimming pool (Vu Quang).
Mr. Bui Duy Hao - Secretary of the Duc Giang Commune Youth Union said: "The commune's terrain has many dangerous deep ponds and lakes, with potential risks of drowning, so since the beginning of summer, we have planned to coordinate with Duc Giang Primary School to implement free swimming lessons for local children. After a short time of launching, more than 60 children have participated. We hope that this class will help children have the opportunity to practice sports, contributing to reducing tragic accidents."
Students in Duc Giang commune (Vu Quang) enjoy learning to swim.
Phan Tien Dung, a 5th grader at Duc Giang Primary School, excitedly said: “This is the first time I have learned to swim. Thanks to the help of the union members in the commune, after only 4 lessons, I have mastered the basic movements. During the remaining time of the class, I will try to practice and soon learn to swim proficiently to ensure my safety in the underwater environment.”
It is known that this summer, in Vu Quang district, there have been 4 free swimming classes organized. Opening free swimming classes is not only a useful summer playground, but also equips children with basic knowledge to prevent drowning. In each class, in addition to being instructed on how to swim, students are also instructed by teachers on swimming skills and practice swimming to rescue drowning people, first aid skills when drowning occurs, and skills such as crawling, breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle, etc.
Free swimming classes in Duc Huong commune attract many children to learn.
Ms. Hoang Thi Tham (Huong Pho village, Duc Huong commune) said: “The summer swimming class is free, so not only me but many parents agree and spend time bringing their children to learn. Seeing my children playing in a safe environment, with supervision, I feel very secure.”
In Huong Son district, free swimming classes have also been opened in some communes to help children have the opportunity to learn to swim and master knowledge about drowning prevention.
Children in Son Trung commune (Huong Son) are taught swimming skills for free.
In early June 2023, Son Trung commune coordinated with Duy Thang Investment and Trade Development Company Limited (Pho Chau town) to open 2 swimming classes, each class has 25 children from 8 to 15 years old, children of policy families, poor households, and households with especially difficult circumstances.
Free swimming courses in Son Trung commune are held for 2 months.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung - swimming teacher said: "The free swimming course for children is held for 2 months. During this time, students will be trained in swimming skills, drowning prevention skills, rescue skills, and lifesaving skills in case of drowning. Our goal after the course is to have 100% of students master swimming skills and techniques."
Having a child participating in a summer swimming class, Ms. Hoang Thi Lan (village 3, Son Trung commune) shared: “Every few days, I see information about children drowning in the press, I am very worried. When my child is able to attend a free swimming class, the teacher is enthusiastic, has many skills and experience in teaching swimming, I am very assured. Through this class, I hope my child and other children will quickly learn to swim, have a lot of knowledge and skills in the water.”
Free swimming class organized by Bac Hong Ward Youth Union (Hong Linh Town).
In Hong Linh Town, some free swimming classes for poor children have also been organized. Ms. Le Thi Thuong - Secretary of the Bac Hong Ward Youth Union said: "Recently, we have organized 2 free swimming classes for 30 students with difficult circumstances in the area. This is a regular activity held in the summer to create a healthy playground, creating conditions for children to have the opportunity to exercise as well as gain more knowledge and skills to protect themselves from drowning accidents."
Teaching free swimming to poor children and children in difficult circumstances is a very useful activity during the summer to improve physical strength and prevent drowning accidents for children. Hopefully, in the near future, Ha Tinh will have more free swimming classes to create conditions for children to participate, contributing to join hands with society in preventing drowning accidents for children.
