Comrade Bui Huu Ly (born in 1951) was the third child in a farming family in a land rich in revolutionary traditions in Hamlet 11, Thuan Loc Commune, Can Loc District (now Hong Lam Village, Thuan Loc Commune, Hong Linh Town). On August 16, 1968, following the sacred call of the Fatherland, Comrade Bui Huu Ly enlisted in the army and was assigned to Battalion 5, Regiment 233, Military Region 4, fighting to protect Ben Thuy Ferry.
In 1969, Comrade Ly's unit was mobilized to march to the Southern battlefield to participate in the battle. On May 11, 1973, Comrade Bui Huu Ly heroically sacrificed himself in a fierce battle on the Southern front when he was not yet 22 years old.
After his death, martyr Bui Huu Ly was buried by his comrades at the cemetery of the Southern Front. In 1980, the remains of martyr Bui Huu Ly were brought back to be buried at the Martyrs Cemetery of Le Thuy District (Quang Binh Province) until today.

Due to the war, documents and records were lost. To date, comrade Bui Huu Ly has been recognized as a martyr by the Party and the State and has been awarded a certificate of "National Merit" by the Prime Minister.
