The first Asian Steel Bridge Design Competition was held at Can Tho University

The competition took place on August 27 and 28 at Can Tho University. The "ASIA BRIDGE COMPETITION 2024" is the first event held in Vietnam with two parts: theoretical presentation and practical assembly. The presentations were held entirely in English.

With a long history and prestige, the competition attracted the participation of 21 teams from 18 universities in 6 countries and territories including Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The competition included 15 international teams and 6 domestic teams.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the contest, Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai - Vice Rector of Can Tho University - said that the contest contributes to promoting innovation and creativity in the field of traffic construction; especially meaningful for the Mekong Delta region.

At the same time, promote the spirit of learning and scientific research of students; strengthen the establishment of relationships and cooperation between universities, as well as cultural and academic exchanges between students from many different countries.

Student representatives participating in the competition said that this is an opportunity for students to apply the knowledge they have learned into practice through the stages, from concept design, manufacturing, construction and assembly, project management, material procurement, planning and cost management. At the same time, it also brings experience in teamwork.

Each participating team will come up with ideas for the bridge model, calculate the load-bearing capacity of the components, manufacture the details, assemble and test the load. The specific content of the competition is specified in the "Regulations of the Asian Steel Bridge Design Competition 2024" drafted by the technical advisory board.

The results of the competition were evaluated by a professional jury consisting of domestic and foreign professors. Through this, the organizers hope that the Asian Steel Bridge Design Competition 2024 will continue to be an important foundation, contributing to improving the quality of infrastructure projects at home and abroad.

The competition organizers will announce the results and award prizes on the evening of August 28, then the student groups will go on a field trip on August 29, visiting bridge and road models.
