The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just signed Decision No. 324 on announcing the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List for the traditional festival of Tay Phuong Pagoda in Thach Xa Commune, Thach That District, Hanoi.
Tay Phuong Pagoda, also known as Sung Phuc Pagoda, is located in Thach Xa Commune, Thach That District, about 40km from the center of Hanoi. Tay Phuong Pagoda is famous not only for its ancient architecture but also for its beautiful natural scenery.

The pagoda is located on the top of Cau Lau mountain, surrounded by fertile plains, mountains and rivers - a beautiful location associated with Eastern feng shui concepts.
Around the pagoda are exquisite carvings of lotus flowers, chrysanthemums, dragons, phoenixes, and tigers. These are masterpieces from the hands of talented artisans in Chang Son - a famous old carpentry village. To reach the pagoda, visitors need to climb over 200 mossy laterite steps.
Tay Phuong Pagoda owns 64 statues with precious reliefs, 16 statues of Patriarchs, a set of Three Worlds Buddha statues, a set of 18 Arhats with different emotions of joy, anger, love and hate.
Tay Phuong Pagoda Festival takes place annually, the main festival day is the 6th of the 3rd lunar month, held at the special national relic Tay Phuong Pagoda, Thach Xa commune, Thach That district.
The festival includes a ceremony and a festival with rituals of offering and worshipping Buddha; a palanquin procession and parade of the Water Puppetry troupe; offerings from leaders of the People's Committees of communes and towns in the district...
The festival includes folk games such as: throwing con, walking on stilts, swings; water puppetry performances, art performances, gong performances; ethnic wrestling exchanges, etc. In addition, there is also an area to display and sell specialty products of Thach That district.
Tay Phuong Pagoda Festival is a cultural and religious activity with rituals of worshipping heaven and earth, traditional Buddhist worship rituals and folk games... creating unique and special values.
This festival becomes a national intangible cultural heritage, an opportunity for local people to promote the historical value of Tay Phuong pagoda relic, while at the same time preserving the cultural identity of Thach That countryside.
In 2014, the Government recognized Tay Phuong Pagoda as a special National Monument for its architectural and artistic value. In 2015, the Tay Phuong Pagoda Buddhist statues from the Tay Son period, dating from the late 18th century, were recognized as a National Treasure.
