Maintain top position at SEA Games 33

The leader of the Department of Sports and Physical Training (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) said that in 2025, the important task of Vietnamese sports is the 33rd SEA Games taking place in December in Thailand. At the 33rd SEA Games, Vietnamese sports aim to stand firmly in the top group, especially focusing on sports in the competition program at the ASIAD and the Olympics. Investing in sports is a continuous process, in which the SEA Games usually take place in odd years as a stepping stone for Vietnamese sports to prepare forces for larger arenas. For example, the 33rd SEA Games (in 2025) is a step to prepare forces for the 2026 ASIAD, aiming to conquer the Olympics in 2028.

Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen and the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will go to the "big sea" this year.

With such a goal, Vietnamese sports maintain long-term focus on teams, distributing forces at National Sports Training Centers including Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho. Many teams also have plans to train abroad and compete internationally. Vietnamese sports also determine to invest in 17 sports with hundreds of athletes and about 30 experts aiming to win 85 - 90 gold medals in Thailand.

Participate in many major international tournaments

In addition to the 33rd SEA Games, in 2025, Vietnamese sports will also send many teams and athletes to participate in major international tournaments such as the Asian Championship, World Cup, and World Championship.

The Vietnamese women's volleyball team made a splash when they qualified for the world championship for the first time, which will take place in Thailand in September. Fans expect players Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen to perform at their best when competing against world-class volleyball teams including Poland (ranked 6th in the world), Germany (ranked 12th) and Kenya (ranked 22nd) in the group stage.

Another "star" of Vietnamese sports at the world level, chess player Le Quang Liem (currently ranked 15th in the world), will also continue to conquer the world chess village this year. In 2025, in addition to international open tournaments, Le Quang Liem is expected to represent Vietnamese chess to compete in the World Cup and also be present at the 33rd SEA Games. In shooting, "seed" Trinh Thu Vinh (currently ranked 17th in the world in the women's air pistol event) continues to receive key investment. She will participate in Asian and world tournaments to accumulate points, improve her ranking towards the top goal of the 2028 Olympics. In badminton, Nguyen Thuy Linh has just returned to the world's top 30 after a series of good competitions earlier this year. She, Le Duc Phat (ranked 56th in the world), Nguyen Hai Dang (ranked 58th in the world) are 3 notable faces of Vietnamese badminton with plans to participate in many upcoming international tournaments.

In weightlifting, Trinh Van Vinh and other key athletes plan to compete in major international tournaments to hone their skills and accumulate points on the world rankings. In archery, Do Thi Anh Nguyet and Le Quoc Phong will participate in the world cup in China, Spain and the world championship in Korea.
