Quang Ngai Provincial Tax Department has announced that there are phone numbers impersonating the tax department to request the installation of suspicious applications. If you see these numbers, you need to be extremely careful.

Nowadays, forms of fraud on social networks are extremely sophisticated and unpredictable. Fraudsters even impersonate authorities to ask victims to install suspicious applications under the guise of applications from Tax Authorities, as in the case recently warned by the Quang Ngai Tax Department.

Recently, on the official website of the Quang Ngai Tax Department, a warning was posted about the Quang Ngai - Son Tinh Regional Tax Department receiving reports that many individuals with phone numbers starting with 07 called businesses in the city, asking businesses to bring their licenses and citizen identification cards to the Tax Department for instructions on tax reduction procedures.

Along with that, many businesses received calls instructing them to install the app to receive information from the tax authority and said that this was the software deployed by the Quang Ngai Tax Department to businesses. If they could not come, they could install it according to the caller's instructions.

According to the phone numbers provided by the business, these are the following phone numbers: 0794830181, 0765093121, 0765206760, 0765206760, 0767550140, 0764418247,... In addition, on June 5, 2023, there was another number 0365 637305 also calling with similar content.

This may be the behavior of fraudulent activities, impersonation, and taking advantage of the name of the tax authority to steal personal information and bank account information for the purpose of appropriating assets.

According to the Quang Ngai Tax Department, the Tax sector has deployed a number of applications to serve taxpayers in performing online public tax services. The mobile applications that the Tax sector is providing such as etaxMobile, Invoice Lookup, etc. are only available through Google Play (for devices using the Android operating system) and Apple Store (for devices using the IOS operating system). In addition to the above application channels, the Tax sector does not provide applications in any other form.

Be careful with strange applications of unknown origin that require many access rights.

Quang Ngai Tax Department also emphasized that taxpayers should NOT install applications for smart devices via links (url links) or unofficial instructions sent via text messages, social networks, emails, etc.

On the other hand, Android phone users can be tricked into installing APK apps while iPhone users can install apps as trusted download profiles.

Therefore, people should be extremely cautious with phone numbers calling to install APK applications (for Android users) or applications in the form of download files on iPhone. If an application does not come from the app store, be cautious and do not install it.

In addition, users need to be especially wary of applications that require a lot of privacy when installing such as screen control, input data, file access, message access, screen viewing, etc. It is necessary to carefully check the application information, application access rights and application features before downloading and installing.
