(GLO)- With the theme "From the heart of each of us - Joining hands to build a compassionate community", Humanitarian Month 2023 has reached its halfway point. With the joint efforts of organizations and individuals, compassion has been spread and helped those in difficult circumstances with gifts and practical work.

Practical and meaningful activities

During this year's Humanitarian Month, along with giving gifts, the units also coordinated to organize medical examinations for people in remote areas and ethnic minority areas. Recently, on May 13, the Provincial Red Cross Society (CRS) coordinated with the Chu Pah District Red Cross Society to provide medical examinations, free medicine and gifts to poor and disadvantaged households in Hoa Phu commune. The program presented 50 gifts to the poor and provided free medical examinations and medicine to 250 people with a total cost of 65 million VND. The organization's funding was drawn from the regular sources of the Provincial Red Cross Society and from mobilized sources.

Ms. Alin (Boi village) said: My family is near-poor, has an unstable income, and lives are difficult, so I rarely go to the doctor. "Hearing that a group of doctors from the province came to examine and give medicine to the people, I brought my 3 children to the doctor. The program has helped the poor people to be examined to know their health status, and if they are sick, they can be treated promptly," said Ms. Alin.

Talking to us, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hao - Vice Chairman of Hoa Phu Commune People's Committee - said: The commune has nearly 1,700 households, of which 474 are ethnic minority households. Currently, the whole commune has 43 poor households, accounting for 2.53%; 206 near-poor households, accounting for 12.1%. Recently, the local government has implemented many solutions to support people to escape poverty. However, the number of poor and near-poor households is still high. In particular, the commune still has 9 households facing housing difficulties. Therefore, the commune hopes to receive more support from the community so that people have more conditions to improve their lives.

Ms. Dinh Thi Phuong - President of the Chu Pah District Red Cross Association - informed: The locality's goal is to give away about 600 gifts (each worth over 700,000 VND) during the Humanitarian Month. In addition to giving gifts, the Association also mobilizes philanthropists to provide livelihoods; organize free medical examinations and medicine... Up to now, we have given away 650 gifts, exceeding the set target and continue to strive to mobilize more practical and meaningful gifts for the poor.

Striving to help 25,000 people in difficulty
