Thailand U17 opened the 2025 AFC U17 Championship with a 1-4 loss to Uzbekistan U17, playing with one less player for almost the entire second half. Despite losing the match, Thai youth football had a notable highlight: the role of Silva Mexes.

It can be said that Thailand U17 has high expectations for Mexes, a player currently at the famous Carrington football training center, belonging to MU U16. Mexes was sent on by coach Jadet Meelarp to replace the injured Thunwisit Taman after more than 20 minutes, and he scored at the end of the first half.

The young talent of MU has dual nationality of Wales - Thailand. He agreed to play for Thailand U17 after being persuaded by Madam Pang.

Mexes’ goal in his U17 Asian Cup debut brought tears to his mother, Tiffany Tyler. “The first match may not have been good, but we have to keep our heads up and keep fighting,” Mexes said as he prepared for the match against host U17 Saudi Arabia (0:15 a.m. April 7).

Mexes, one of the youngest players in the 2025 AFC U17 Championship (born in 2010), emphasized: “Right now I am only thinking about the upcoming match. I want to be on the field and win. Let's use all the pent-up emotions to win this match.”
