Speaking after United's 5-4 win over Lyon, Amorim spoke about the notable adjustments at half-time: "We changed the players' positions, especially Harry Maguire. At the same time, I wanted Casemiro to play closer to the opponent's goal. Kobbie Mainoo was also allowed to close in on the penalty area, while Mason Mount will be tasked with making crosses. We need to score, anything can happen."
Amorim also admitted that his changes were meant to motivate his players. "It takes a lot of luck to make a difference in such an important moment," said the Portuguese coach.
Maguire was one of the decisive factors in the match. The English centre-back was moved up to play as a striker by Amorim to put pressure on the Lyon defence. Amorim's change paid off when Maguire headed home the decisive goal in the 120+1 minute, helping MU win from the spot.
Before that, Mainoo also shone with a shot that hit Lyon's net in the 120th minute, bringing the match back to balance.

“Before I put Maguire up front, I only saw one Man Utd player in the penalty area. If Maguire is there, he knows what to do in that space,” Amorim emphasized.
The Portuguese coach also happily said that the choice of Maguire for the striker position came from the English centre-back's strength in heading. Previously, the only striker Rasmus Hojlund had not completed the task well.
After this victory, MU will advance to the semi-finals to meet Athletic Bilbao. This is an opportunity for the "Red Devils" to continue their ambition to win the Europa League this season.
