The event became even more special when it was held in the exhibition space of the late painter Nguyen Cuong (1943-2014) with the theme “10 years of nostalgia”. To create an impressive dialogue between music and painting in the early summer days of Hanoi, 4 international and Vietnamese artists together chose performances with poetic medleys as the name of the program.
Pianist Iulian Ochescu - a Romanian musical prodigy with many major international music awards. In addition to his strength in classical music, he also plays a variety of genres such as jazz, pop... which are the threads running through the concert. He is familiar to Vietnamese classical music lovers as he often comes to Hanoi to perform and exchange.
Iulian Ochescu said that this was also the first time he had collaborated with 3 Vietnamese classical artists in a concert. Before that, he had performed separately with the 3 artists in many different programs during his visits to Hanoi. In addition to the two solo performances Waltz No.2 (Dimitri Shostakovich), Johannes Brahms /Intermezzo and Ballade op. 118, he also performed duets and trios with 3 Vietnamese artists, so before the program took place, he spent a lot of time discussing and practicing. For Iulian Ochescu, the 3 artists Trinh Minh Hien, Bui Ha Mien, and Ngo Huong Diep are all outstanding faces in terms of talent, not only possessing skillful techniques but also having their own style. Between them, there were almost no barriers or difficulties in the working process because they all shared a strong passion for music and the dream of bringing music to the audience.
Violinist Trinh Minh Hien further revealed that the Summer Dream Concert's repertoire was created by four artists with the criteria of being luxurious but close, including both international and Vietnamese works, arranged in order from classical to modern. "With experience and passion, we understand that through the works, our individual level as well as our duet and trio coordination is what attracts the audience. It is the charm in each artist's musical style that makes the audience feel the soul and emotions of each person," she said.
In Summer Dream Concert, Bui Ha Mien's deep, warm cello was further enhanced by Iulian's sometimes poignant, sometimes profound piano accompaniment through two duets Polonaise de Concert, op 14 (D. Popper), Ritual fire dance (De. Falla).
Ngo Huong Diep was the only singer to join the concert with 3 classical artists. In the space of the art gallery and in harmony with the musical accompaniment of pianist Iulian Ochescu, Huong Diep's voice soared even more through the Habanera piece in the famous Opera Carmen or the familiar melody of O mio Babbino caro. In particular, both of them also performed the emotional song Viet Nam Tinh Em and received enthusiastic response from the audience.
In addition to the duets, the artists also have trio performances in the Summer Dream Concert such as: Where Love Meets - composed by Hoang Hiep; Loneliness - Nguyen Anh 9; Libertango (Trinh Minh Hien, Bui Ha Mien, Iulian Ochescu)... bringing many emotions to the listeners.
