On the afternoon of April 26, the Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) coordinated with Hitachi Company to organize a test run of the train on metro line No. 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien, from Suoi Tien Bus Station to An Phu Station (Thu Duc City).
The route is about 12.3km long, starting from Suoi Tien Bus Station, passing through National University Station to High-Tech Park Station, Thu Duc Station, Binh Thai Station, Phuoc Long Station, Rach Chiec Station and ending at An Phu Station.
Each train of Metro Line 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien consists of 3 cars 61.5m long; can carry 930 passengers. Of which, 147 are seated and 783 are standing. The maximum designed speed is 110km/h (elevated section) and 80km/h (underground section).
According to design, the elevated section has a maximum speed of 110km/h, but during the test run, to ensure safety, the train only runs at a maximum speed of less than 50km/h.
The train trial run is part of test phase 5 (static integration) and test phase 6 (dynamic integration) in the 8-phase testing process, which has been underway for several months.
Previously, metro line No. 1 also conducted many test runs to check the power supply systems, rail systems, automatic train protection systems, etc.
In 2023, MAUR is working with consultants and contractors to speed up the project implementation progress, completing 100% of the construction work including installation of remaining equipment, completing the architecture of stations and pedestrian bridges along the entire route.
In addition, to soon put the project into commercial operation, MAUR is also urgently carrying out other tasks such as continuing trial operations; training, technology transfer; conducting appraisal and acceptance of fire prevention and fighting, environmental contents... to synchronize with the process of completing construction work.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Canh (70 years old, living in Binh Thanh district) shared that in the future, metro line 1 could be the main mass passenger transport route, taking people from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to the new Eastern Bus Station (Thu Duc city), helping to reduce traffic congestion.
"This is the first time I have experienced the metro in Vietnam. I have done it before in Korea. I hope that our country's urban railway will develop further. And most of all, I hope that the next generation will enjoy many similar convenient transport facilities," said Mr. Canh.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung (67 years old, living in Binh Thanh district) expressed that seeing the success of metro line 1 as it is gradually reaching the finish line and preparing to go into operation, he is very happy.
"Metro will open up a new way to connect means of transport together, buses, coaches... helping to improve passenger transport activities, reduce traffic congestion, from which the city will develop more and more modernly," Mr. Hung expected.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tra My (28 years old, living in Tan Binh district) shared that metro line 1 has been under construction for quite a while and everyone in the city wants to experience this big project. She also hopes that the project will be completed as soon as possible.
