DNVN - In 2025, trade promotion will focus on diversifying markets, developing national brands and promoting green economy, supporting Vietnamese enterprises to enhance their competitiveness and participate deeply in the global value chain through the application of information technology...
In 2024, in the context of a challenging global economy, the total import-export turnover for the whole year will reach nearly 800 billion USD, an increase of 15% compared to 2023 and 2.5 times higher than the target assigned by the Government. Exports exceeded the 400 billion USD mark, an increase of 14.4%, while imports increased by 16.4%, helping the trade balance maintain a trade surplus of nearly 25 billion USD. This is the 9th consecutive year that Vietnam has had a trade surplus, contributing to increasing foreign exchange reserves, stabilizing exchange rates and macroeconomic indicators.
According to Mr. Vu Ba Phu - Director of the Trade Promotion Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), these positive results have important contributions from trade promotion activities. During the year, nearly 6,000 enterprises, cooperatives and trade promotion organizations were supported through national programs.
International fairs, exhibitions and trade activities have helped sign nearly 100 million USD worth of direct contracts, while sales at domestic events have reached hundreds of billions of VND. Trade promotion activities not only support businesses in connecting with partners, taking advantage of free trade agreements (FTAs), but also enhance competitiveness, creating conditions for deeper participation in the global value chain.
In 2024, nearly 6,000 businesses, cooperatives and trade promotion organizations were supported through national programs.
Despite many positive results, according to Mr. Phu, trade promotion activities still face many difficulties. Limited budget resources and financial mechanisms that have not been adjusted in a timely manner are major challenges. The implementation of the national brand program is not commensurate with the needs, while the organizational model of trade promotion agencies in localities is not uniform, causing difficulties in coordination and connection. In addition, training and brand support programs have not been disseminated evenly, and although communication activities have improved, their effectiveness is not high.
To continue to maintain its role as a driving force for export growth, the Trade Promotion Agency has identified a number of key tasks for 2025. Accordingly, trade promotion activities will be implemented in the direction of diversifying markets and products, effectively exploiting opportunities from FTAs to boost exports to major markets as well as expanding to new and potential markets.
At the same time, national branding activities will be enhanced, especially promoting products such as rice, coffee, and seafood in international markets and supporting the protection of trademarks and geographical indications.
Trade promotion will also be linked to green economic criteria, focusing on environmentally friendly products to promote green transformation and support businesses to improve their competitiveness in the new context.
In addition, information consulting, trade policy updates and trade promotion skills training will be promoted, creating a proactive position for businesses when approaching international markets. At the same time, the Industry and Trade sector will promote digital transformation, apply information technology and strengthen international cooperation, especially through trade promotion offices abroad to bring sustainable efficiency to businesses.
