Attending and providing information about the 9th Global Young Parliamentarians Conference were Vice Chairwoman of the Ethnic Council Dinh Thi Phuong Lan - Vice Chairwoman of the Group of Young National Assembly Deputies of the XVth tenure; representatives of the National Secretariat, the Reception - Logistics - Security - Health Subcommittee of the Conference Organizing Committee.
On the side of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, there were Head of the Central Committee of the Youth Solidarity and Gathering Committee, Permanent Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union Nguyen Kim Quy; Director of the National Volunteer Center Do Thi Kim Hoa - the permanent unit in charge of selecting, coordinating volunteers and liaison officers to serve the 9th Global Young Parliamentarians.
Speaking at the opening of the training program, Director of the National Volunteer Center Do Thi Kim Hoa said that with the approval of the Politburo and the support of the member parliaments of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Vietnamese National Assembly will host the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, taking place from September 14-18, 2023 in Hanoi.
According to the assignment of the Conference Organizing Committee, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union selected 200 liaison officers and volunteers from more than 2,000 applications to participate as volunteers and liaison officers in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Russian, Cambodian and Lao languages. The liaison officers and volunteers participating in supporting the Conference are all young people and students who have been carefully selected, based on their political and moral qualities, good academic performance and active participation in extracurricular activities, especially those who have experience in serving international conferences and events held in Vietnam.
Director of the National Volunteer Center Do Thi Kim Hoa delivered the opening speech of the training program.
Director of the National Volunteer Center Do Thi Kim Hoa also said that in the training program, 200 liaison officers and volunteers visited JW Marriot, Hyatt, Grand Plaza, Daewoo hotels - where delegates will stay during the Conference, and they also visited the National Convention Center and the National Assembly Building - where the main activities of the Conference will take place.
Introducing the Conference, Vice President of the Ethnic Council Dinh Thi Phuong Lan - Vice President of the Group of Young National Assembly Deputies of the XVth tenure said that the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians will take place from September 14 to 17, 2023 in Hanoi with the theme: "The role of young people in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through digital transformation and innovation". The conference is an opportunity for young parliamentarians from around the world to discuss parliamentary activities to enhance the role of young people in promoting the achievement of sustainable development goals through digital transformation, innovation as well as cultural and human values. The conference is also an opportunity to promote the image of Vietnam in general and the Vietnamese National Assembly in particular to international friends.
Vice President of the Council of Ethnic Minorities Dinh Thi Phuong Lan - Vice President of the Group of Young National Assembly Deputies of the 15th tenure introduced the Inter-Parliamentary Union IPU and the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians.
Vice President of the Young National Assembly Delegates Group Dinh Thi Phuong Lan said that the conference focused on three main topics: Digital transformation; Innovation and entrepreneurship; Promoting respect for cultural diversity for sustainable development. These are all current world issues of interest to the IPU, parliaments of member countries and young parliamentarians.
Specifically, with the theme of Digital Transformation, the discussion sessions will focus on issues of improving institutions and policies in promoting the Digital Transformation process to enhance opportunities for sustainable development; sharing experiences of Parliaments of countries in legislative work, supervision and the role of young parliamentarians to promote the digital transformation process in the context of the 4th industrial revolution (4IR); sharing progress achieved in digitizing Parliamentary activities for sustainable development.
In the topic of innovation and entrepreneurship, delegates will focus on discussing the improvement of institutions and policies in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship (including youth entrepreneurship) as a driving force for inclusive and sustainable development, including the food technology sector (foodtech); Sharing experiences of parliaments in legislation, supervision and the role of young parliamentarians to promote innovation and entrepreneurship; Exchanging and discussing the development of artificial intelligence contributing to the process of achieving SDGs; and proposing to parliaments policies and solutions on building and improving institutions and policies to minimize risks related to artificial intelligence.

Regarding the content of Promoting respect for cultural diversity for sustainable development, the session focused on discussing the role of parliaments and young parliamentarians in promoting cultural diversity in the context of technological transformation and globalization. Specifically, digital cooperation based on ethics and minimizing the unintended impacts of digital transformation on privacy, security and happiness; Promoting the role of culture in development policies at the national, regional and international levels; Commitment to protecting and promoting cultural diversity; creating a favorable environment and ecosystem for culture and cultural diversity; The role of culture and cultural diversity in sustainable development.
Vice Chairwoman of the Young Parliamentarians Group Dinh Thi Phuong Lan emphasized that the Vietnamese National Assembly hosting the 9th Young Parliamentarians’ Conference continues to affirm Vietnam’s active, responsible and proactive participation in the IPU; at the same time, it shows Vietnam’s attention and concern for youth and current global issues of youth.
At the training program, volunteers and liaison officers were also informed by representatives of the National Secretariat, the Reception - Logistics - Security - Medical Subcommittee of the Conference Organizing Committee about the Conference Program, the expected scenario of the discussion sessions; information and propaganda work for the Conference; an overview of the reception work serving the Conference, the necessary reception knowledge and skills as well as the skills to handle situations arising in the work of serving the Conference.
Vice President of the Young Parliamentarians Group Dinh Thi Phuong Lan hopes that through the training program, volunteers and liaison officers will be fully equipped with knowledge and skills to support delegations and prepare and serve, contributing to the successful organization of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians./.
