The Prime Minister said not to set moderate goals to strive for easily and the more difficult and pressured it is, the more effort must be made.
On the afternoon of February 14, the National Assembly discussed in groups the Supplementary Project on socio-economic development in 2025 with a growth target of 8% or more.
Speaking at the group on the Project, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that despite facing many difficulties, Vietnam still maintains a stable macro-economy and controls inflation. In 2024, Vietnam's inflation will be at a low level in the world. In 2024, growth will be 7.09%, among the highest in the world. Other balances of the economy are guaranteed. Total import-export turnover will reach nearly 800 billion USD, ranking 20th in the world. People will celebrate a joyful Lunar New Year, every family will have Tet, every person will have Tet, no one will be left behind.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the targets and objectives set for 2024 as well as the long-term goals for the entire term have been and are being achieved. In 2024, we achieved 15/15 socio-economic targets, of which 12/15 exceeded the set targets. 2025 is the year of breakthrough, acceleration and reaching the finish line.
The Prime Minister said that in the face of the impact of Typhoon Yagi and the world context, many opinions suggested reducing some growth targets for 2024. "I answer: Striving for growth is for the goal of a rich people, a strong country, and the happiness and prosperity of the people. Do not set moderate goals to make it easy to strive. The more difficult and pressured, the more effort must be made," said the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister said that the Government has reported to the Politburo and the Central Committee that it can strive for a higher growth target of 8% GDP or more in 2025. High GDP growth helps drive growth in many indicators, from per capita income to labor productivity. GDP growth of over 8% is a huge challenge when the world's average growth is only about 3%.
“The whole country must grow, localities must grow, businesses must grow. All actions must be for the purpose of growth,” the Prime Minister stated.
Referring to solutions, the Prime Minister said it is necessary to create creative space for ministries, sectors, businesses, people and all relevant entities to achieve growth targets.
Along with that, it is necessary to expand credit growth, combine fiscal policies, increase revenue and reduce expenditure. "It may be necessary to increase inflation a little to boost growth. Expand the deficit ratio in the context of public debt and government debt being well controlled," said the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister said that we must make a breakthrough in training high-quality human resources through promoting new growth drivers in science, technology, and innovation. Resolution 57 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, and innovation is being implemented very vigorously. "We must be united and unanimous. Once we have agreed, we must only discuss action, only discuss progress, not retreat. Once we are determined, we must do it. All for the development and future of the country," said the Prime Minister.
