In the letter, new Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet respectfully thanked King Norodom Sihamoni for appointing him as Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia for the 2023-2028 term. He said this is both a great honor and a heavy responsibility in his career of serving the country and the people.

“I vow to do my utmost to serve the Fatherland and the people; strengthen national unity, respect the constitution, protect the monarchy, promote democracy and freedom, ensure human rights, protect the law and social justice; at the same time, firmly protect the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the country; constantly care for and bring a prosperous, happy, secure and safe life to the people; and enhance Cambodia's position in the international arena,” wrote new Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet in a letter of thanks to King Norodom Sihamoni.

Earlier, on the same morning, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni issued a Royal Decree appointing Dr. Hun Manet as Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia for the 2023-2028 term.

New Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Hun Manet was born on October 20, 1977, in Koh Thmor village, Memot district, Kampong Cham province (now Tbong Khmum province). He is the eldest son of Prime Minister Hun Sen and his wife Bun Rany Hun Sen.

Hun Manet enlisted in the army in 1995. That same year, he entered the United States Military Academy, also known as West Point, one of the most prestigious military training institutions of the US military. Four years later, he became the first Cambodian to graduate from the academy. He also earned a master's degree in economics from New York University in 2002, followed by a doctorate from the University of Bristol in England in 2008.

After training abroad, Hun Manet joined and led the National Counter-Terrorism Task Force of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense with the rank of Colonel in 2008. Since then, with his outstanding abilities, he has made rapid progress, holding many high-ranking positions in the Royal Cambodian Army. From 2018 until before the 2023 election, he was Deputy Commander-in-Chief and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army with the rank of 4-star General. He is a member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Cambodian People's Party, Head of the Central Committee of the Youth Affairs Committee of the Cambodian People's Party.

The 7th National Assembly of Cambodia is scheduled to convene its first session on August 21 and lawmakers will be sworn in that evening. On August 22, the new National Assembly will be officially established, and the new Prime Minister and cabinet will come into operation.
