One of the efforts of the Da Nang city government to facilitate people and tourists in cashless transactions is to promote digital transformation of the tourism industry. Online payment by scanning QR codes, using e-wallets on many tourist streets and market systems has brought a lot of convenience to people and tourists.
Recently, An Thuong walking street and night market (My An ward, Ngu Hanh Son district) has implemented online payment by scanning QR codes and using e-wallets. This is a tourist street with many foreign tourists staying, traveling and experiencing cuisine. Many food and beverage shop owners in this street said that cashless payment applied in the street has created a new, modern look in the eyes of tourists, especially foreign tourists.
Ms. Dang Thi Ni Na - the owner of a beverage shop in the neighborhood - said that her shop has implemented online payment early. About 80% of tourists who shop scan the QR code to pay. "As a neighborhood that welcomes many foreign tourists every day, cashless payment is very convenient and safe. We also save time returning change like before," Ms. Ni Na said.
Traveling with his family and enjoying the cuisine at An Thuong night market, Mr. Robert, a British tourist, was very pleased when it only took him more than 30 seconds to scan the QR code to pay: "When traveling, we rarely carry cash, all payments are scanned to ensure safety. Here, the stores apply online payment, which helps me have a more convenient shopping experience."
Mr. Bach Ngoc Hai, Chairman of the People's Committee of My An Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, said that An Thuong tourist area has invested in and upgraded urban infrastructure to serve tourism. The application of online payment aims to facilitate tourists and modernize tourism services. Currently, the area has more than 150 business households. Previously, the ward had promoted the effective implementation of the cashless street model to the people. The locality is continuing to improve to soon achieve the goal of 100% of businesses in An Thuong tourist area implementing cashless payments.
In Hoa Vang district, Tuy Loan night street was established and put into operation at the end of 2020 with a scale of more than 100 stalls, a variety of goods, aiming to become a new tourism product in the western area of Da Nang city. According to Tuy Loan Market Management Board, currently 250/570 business households in the market have bank accounts, use smartphones, install Internet banking, ready for cashless payment transactions. The market management board is continuing to coordinate the installation of applications for the remaining small traders.
At the end of July 2023, the People's Committee of Hoa Vang district launched the "Cashless payment market" model at Tuy Loan market and signed a contract to implement it in 11 communes. Hoa Vang district has invested in a free fiber optic Internet system at Tuy Loan market with seven high-speed wifi lines, contributing to promoting cashless payment activities at the market, including electronic payment transactions between small traders and people taking place smoothly and quickly.
Standing Vice Chairman of Hoa Vang District People's Committee Nguyen Thuc Dung said that the launch of the "Cashless Payment Market" model and the signing of implementation in communes in the district is an activity that creates a strong change, encourages people to use cashless payment methods, contributes to accelerating the process of building and implementing the digital transformation plan in the district, bringing people the experience of modern payment methods with the motto "Cashless: one change, ten thousand good things".
In January 2023, the People's Committee of Da Nang City issued a document requesting departments, branches, agencies, units, People's Committees of districts to promote the implementation of Decision No. 1813/QD-TTg on approving the Project on developing non-cash payments in Vietnam for the period 2021-2025. Accordingly, the People's Committee of the city requested departments, branches, People's Committees of districts and public service providers to strengthen propaganda for people to use non-cash payment methods when paying for public services, taxes, insurance, etc.

To implement this policy, the Da Nang Department of Tourism issued a plan to implement the "Project on developing non-cash payments in the tourism industry for the period 2023-2025". The Da Nang tourism industry aims to have 100% of tourism service businesses in the area access and disseminate the State's policies and guidelines on non-cash payments by 2025; 100% of tourism service businesses in the area apply one or more forms of non-cash payments such as payment by QRCode, VNpay payment gateway, POS card swiping machine, Internet banking, Mobile banking, direct transfer on ATMs...; Freshwater service beaches, tourism service businesses in areas under the management of the Son Tra Peninsula Management Board and Da Nang tourist beaches make the use of non-cash payment methods a habit of residents and tourists when using services at the beach.
Currently, Da Nang has coordinated with the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel); Vietnam E-commerce Association and accompanying units such as Online Mobile Services Joint Stock Company (MoMo wallet), local banks... to implement the cashless street program. Up to now, Da Nang has deployed the "Market 4.0" model in some large markets (Han market, Con market, Dong Da market), encouraging traders and consumers to apply cashless payment methods.
