Truong Thi Mai Ly, head of the RED group, said that choosing the work Tet in Hell Village was not only a challenge but also an opportunity to convey the mystery and depth of folk culture.

She shared: "We were attracted by the image of the villain "Me Vien". It was a challenge and also an opportunity for the group to recreate the culture of the Northern mountainous region through the dance."

Honoring Vietnamese in every frame

One of the special features of the project is the use of Vietnamese writing style instead of Chinese characters, which helps the group affirm the national cultural identity.

The director of the project "Xich Linh" is also the representative of the production unit Moment Before - Jayden Tran said:

"At first, I was hesitant because I thought that Vietnamese fonts would be difficult to create the horror atmosphere we wanted. But you convinced me by creating a handwritten font in a cursive style, which both retains traditional features and creates a sense of mystery."

The RED group also received enthusiastic support from writer Thao Trang, author of the novel Tet in Hell Village .

"The support from Ms. Thao Trang not only helps us understand the novel more deeply but also inspires us to dare to express ourselves through dance" - Ton Nu Yen Vy, project leader of "Xich Linh", said.

Not only answering questions about the plot and setting, Thao Trang also connected the group with the creative director of the original film to design costumes specifically for the group.

Jayden confided to Tuoi Tre: "How to make costumes that are both traditional and suitable for the horror atmosphere is a difficult problem. Ms. Trang helped us create unique designs that are suitable for the space and spirit of the film."

Don't limit yourself to being a student!

Filming took place over two days in the Cu Chi tunnels, but the RED - ISB Dance Club team spent a lot of time developing ideas and executing.

The filming location was in a rubber forest with wet ground, making it difficult to perform the dance moves. Many members slipped and fell during filming, forcing the group to reshoot multiple times to get the perfect shots.

However, mutual support among members is the key factor that helps them overcome challenges during project implementation.

Jayden has a message for young people pursuing their passion for art: "Don't limit yourself to being a student. When doing a project, be really serious and push it as far as possible. I find that when you dare to go beyond your comfort zone and challenge your limits, the results will always be surprising and worthwhile."

The "Xich Linh" project announced on October 11 received strong support from the online community, with the post on the fanpage attracting more than 170,000 views and nearly 3,000 likes.

Previously, RED - ISB Dance Club brought this performance to the Uni-Verse Dance Competition 2024 for students and was also highly appreciated by the judges and audience.
