According to Tech Unwrapped , a new report shows that if you have $200 to spend, you're more likely to spend it on an old iPhone before you even consider a new Android device. This comes as the used smartphone market has become more popular in recent years and has become a great option for users on a tight budget who want to get a device with good specs, or even something that can still be considered high-end.
Old iPhones are still popular with users
The survey found that eight of the top 10 best-selling used smartphones in March 2023 were iPhones. The iPhone 12 Pro Max was the most expensive model, followed by the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12. The cheapest was the second-generation iPhone SE, which sold for $143. It was released in 2020 and runs pretty well thanks to the A13 Bionic chip found in the iPhone 11. The two Android devices on the list of best-selling used phones were the Pixel 6 and the Galaxy S21.
Notably, Apple doesn’t sell new $200 smartphones, which may be one reason why older iPhones are so popular. More importantly, all of the iPhones on the list have consistently received iOS updates, despite their age. The value of the upgrades, combined with iOS optimization and A-series chips, continue to be big reasons for consumer support.
Finally, not everyone has the financial means to invest in the expensive iPhone 14, so people turn to looking for alternatives in the used iPhone market even if they have enough money to buy new Android phones.
