SpaceX launches ship to rescue astronauts trapped on ISS

After many delays, the SpaceX Crew-10 mission of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) successfully took off on the evening of March 14 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida (USA), heading to the International Space Station (ISS).

According to ABC News, SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket took off at 7:03 p.m. on March 14 (US time) in Florida, aiming to bring astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who were stuck on the ISS, back to Earth.

NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, Takuya Onishi of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and Kirill Peskov of the Russian Space Agency (Roscosmos) will join the Crew-10 mission. They will spend the next six months at the ISS after rescuing stranded astronauts Wilmore and Williams.

The launch was originally scheduled for March 12 but was postponed due to a problem with the ground support clamp arm on the Falcon 9 rocket. SpaceX later said the hydraulic system issue had been resolved and the crew was cleared to take off again on March 14.

Previously, two astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, arrived at the ISS in June 2024 on the Boeing (USA) Starliner spacecraft. Both were expected to spend 8 days at the ISS. However, the Starliner spacecraft encountered a series of problems related to the thruster and helium gas leak, causing the two astronauts to be stranded here.

Last year, the Starliner spacecraft returned to Earth without its crew. According to NASA, during their time stuck on the ISS, astronauts Wilmore and Williams performed research and maintenance work with other astronauts.

The Crew-10 mission will be a regular astronaut rotation. It was scheduled to launch on March 26. But NASA moved it up two weeks after US President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk asked for the two astronauts to return sooner.

NASA says Crew-10 will conduct more than 200 science and technology experiments on its mission to help humans venture deeper into space.
