The launch of the PS5 Pro comes amid a global slump in console sales. Sony said in August that it sold 2.4 million PlayStation 5 consoles in its first fiscal quarter, down from 3.3 million in the same period last year.

The PS5 Pro has an upgraded graphics card with 67% more compute units than the regular version, allowing for 45% faster game rendering. In addition, the Japanese technology company also said that the Pro version is integrated with new artificial intelligence capabilities to improve clear graphics.

One of the notable technologies in the upgraded version is advanced ray-tracing, a computer graphics technique that simulates the way light reflects on surfaces.

In terms of storage, the PS5 Pro has a 2 terabyte solid-state drive, up from the 825 GB solid-state drive on the regular PS5. It also comes with Sony's DualSense wireless controller and supports Wi-Fi 7. If you want an Ultra HD Blu-ray drive, you'll have to pay extra.

Sony said that some games will be labeled “PS5 Pro Enhanced” to indicate that they are optimized for the upgraded console, such as: “Alan Wake 2”, “Assassin's Creed Shadows”, “Demon's Souls”, “Dragon's Dogma 2”, “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth”, “Gran Turismo 7”, “Hogwarts Legacy”, “Horizon Forbidden West”, “Marvel's Spider-Man 2”, “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart” and “The Last of Us Part II Remastered”.
