On October 22, a working delegation of the Department of Environmental Crime Prevention and Control (Ministry of Public Security) led by Major General Ha Xuan Duy - Deputy Director of the Department had a working session at the People's Committee of Soc Trang province.
The content of the working session on the management of sand exploitation and transportation activities for projects is applied according to the specific mechanism according to the Resolution of the National Assembly.
At the meeting, the leader of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Soc Trang province said that the province has issued a certificate of exploitation of two sand mines B1 and B2 in the province's sea area to meet the needs of highway projects in the area.
Sand mining areas are located outside 6 nautical miles and are under the jurisdiction of the Central Government. Furthermore, these areas are also bordered by Bac Lieu and Tra Vinh provinces, so Soc Trang has difficulty in managing and controlling sand transport vehicles.
From this situation, the People's Committee of Soc Trang province proposed that the Department of Environmental Crime Prevention and Control advise the Ministry of Public Security to coordinate with other ministries and branches to support the province in managing the exploitation and transportation of sea sand.
At the same time, direct the police of Bac Lieu and Tra Vinh provinces to closely coordinate with Soc Trang Provincial Police to manage and supervise the exploitation and transportation of sea sand.
Major General Ha Xuan Duy acknowledged the recommendations of Soc Trang and said that the exploitation of sea sand must comply with current regulations. Special attention should be paid to environmental protection, while at the same time paying attention to the issue of riverbank and coastal erosion... The recommendations of the province will be compiled by the delegation and submitted to the competent authorities for consideration and resolution.
According to the sand mining contractor's report, since the mining (June 29) until today, the unit has transported 986 trips to the construction site, with the volume of sand mined being more than 545,000m3.
The two above mentioned sand mining areas are currently serving two projects: Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway and component project 4 of Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway.
