Domestic individuals opened more than 1.7 million new securities accounts in the 10 months since the beginning of 2024. By the end of October 2024, the total number of securities accounts had exceeded 9 million.

Domestic individuals opened more than 1.7 million new securities accounts in the 10 months since the beginning of 2024. By the end of October 2024, the total number of securities accounts had exceeded 9 million.

According to information from the Vietnam Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation (VSDC), the number of net opened domestic individual investor accounts reached 156,568 accounts in October 2024. This figure is calculated based on the difference between newly opened and closed accounts. Thus, the number of net newly opened securities accounts of domestic individual investors decreased for the second consecutive month and was also at the lowest level in the past 4 months. In the first 10 months of 2024, domestic individuals opened more than 1.7 million new securities accounts.

Meanwhile, domestic organizations opened 121 new securities accounts in October, 31 more than in September. In total, domestic investors opened 156,689 new accounts in October and in the first 10 months, nearly 1.73 million new accounts were opened, 4.4 times higher than the whole year of 2023 (the year with the highest number of account closures). Domestic investors currently have a total of more than 8.97 million securities accounts.

Meanwhile, foreign investors opened 230 new securities accounts in October 2024, 28 more than the previous month. Of which, foreign individual investors opened 202 new accounts. Foreign institutional investors opened 28 new accounts. After the first 10 months of 2024, foreign investors opened a total of 2,052 new accounts.

The total number of securities accounts of domestic and foreign investors at the end of October 2024 exceeded 9 million. The above figure is equivalent to 9.05% of Vietnam's population.

Individual investors continued to reduce opening new securities accounts in the context of a generally negative market, with liquidity remaining low. VN-Index ended October 2024 at 1,264.48 points, down 23.46 points, equivalent to a decrease of 1.82% compared to September. The average matched order value per session was VND 15,435 billion, up slightly by 2.2% compared to the average in September, but down 17.4% compared to the average in 5 months. In October, individual investors net bought VND 4,109.4 billion. In terms of order matching method alone, this group of investors net sold VND 263 billion. Thus, the net buying force mainly came from negotiated transactions.

For the listed stock market on HNX, the HNX-Index decreased by 3.64% compared to September 2024 but increased in liquidity. Trading volume in October 2024 increased by 14.06% to 1.2 million shares, equivalent to a value of VND 22,990 billion, up 10.8% compared to the previous month. The average trading volume of the market reached 54.2 million shares/session, down 5.7%, equivalent to an average trading value of VND 999.5 billion/session, down 8.46%.

The UPCoM-Index also closed October 2024 down 1.26%, while liquidity on the UPCoM market tended to increase slightly. The average trading volume reached more than 45.72 million shares/session, up 6.52% compared to the previous month with the average trading value increasing by 11.38%, reaching more than VND 717 billion/session.
