Besides the dredged shipping routes completed as planned, there are still routes that have to adjust the implementation time due to environmental procedure problems.
According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration, dredging and maintenance projects to be carried out in 2023-2024 with 11 basic waterways have been basically completed.
Some of the shipping routes have completed dredging and have been accepted for operation, including Hai Thinh channel, a channel for large tonnage ships entering the Hau River, Hon La shipping route, Thuan An shipping route, and Sa Ky shipping route. The projects are currently in the process of finalizing the project.
Many dredging projects are under construction and will be completed in 2024 (Illustration photo).
In addition, many projects have completed bidding procedures to select contractors and are under construction, and will be completed in December, such as the dredging and maintenance project of Hai Phong waterway (Lach Huyen section), Cua Lo waterway, Saigon - Vung Tau waterway and Diem Dien waterway.
Regarding the Da Nang waterway dredging and maintenance project, the Vietnam Maritime Administration said the project's completion date has been adjusted to 2025 due to problems with environmental procedures.
The Soai Rap waterway has been stopped due to the inability to arrange a location to dump dredged material.
In 2024, there will be 2 channels that will be dredged and maintained, including: Hai Phong maritime project 2022-2025 (Ha Nam and Bach Dang canal sections) and Rach Gia channel.
Of which, the Hai Phong channel project has completed dredging and is completing procedures to organize acceptance and put into operation. The Rach Gia channel is also under construction, expected to be completed in December 2024.
In the period of 2024-2025, 12 waterways will be dredged and maintained. The Vietnam Maritime Administration is selecting a project management unit and implementing environmental procedures according to the provisions of Decree No. 57/2024 of the Government regulating the management of dredging activities in seaport waters and inland waterway waters.
