(PLVN) - Seemingly not wanting to repeat the story that "heated up" public opinion because of the power shortage last summer, this year - at the beginning of Spring, leaders of the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises have been traveling back and forth between the South and the North to urge the progress of power source projects.

In just 10 days, the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises were present at the two largest hydroelectric dams in Vietnam, Hoa Binh Hydroelectric Plant and Tri An Hydroelectric Plant, to inspect the factories.

Specifically, last week, the Committee's working delegation led by Chairman Nguyen Hoang Anh personally inspected the progress of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project, which is being constructed by a consortium of Truong Son Construction Corporation - Construction Joint Stock Company 47 - Lilama 10 Joint Stock Company. This project is designed and invested to add about 495 million kWh of electricity to the national power system each year.

However, after the groundbreaking date - January 2021, the construction site was forced to "stop" due to the factory foundation pit collapse incident. General contractor Truong Son had to apply measures to handle the slope collapse for nearly a year before construction and installation could resume.

At the foot of the construction site, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh requested that the subjects related to this project need to organize construction in 3 shifts and 4 teams to make up for the progress, while emphasizing that due attention must be paid to both safety and quality of the project.

The general contractor's representative - Major General Nguyen Huu Ngoc said that this unit has sent to Hoa Binh many "combat-ready" units in the construction of lakes and dams.

Speaking with PLVN , Major General Nguyen Huu Ngoc - Commander of Army Corps 12/Truong Son Construction Corporation - said that, implementing the direction of the Prime Minister and the investor, Army Corps 12 has sent to Hoa Binh many units with experience in dam construction and a battle-hardened colonel-level commander who has participated in managing many large projects to be the Director of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project Management Board.

"We ourselves, as the Heads of the Corps Command, sometimes were present, working and eating together at the construction site to closely monitor the work and encourage the brothers to work day and night to make up for the progress," General Ngoc said.

After visiting the above project, on March 20, Vice Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises Ho Sy Hung "flew" to the Southeast, to Tri An Lake to do two things at the same time, which are to inspect the operation and power supply in 2024 of this hydropower plant and discuss more about the Tri An Hydropower Expansion Project, with Power Project Management Board 3 (EVNPMB3) as the investor representative.

Tri An is the largest hydroelectric reservoir in the South, with 4 turbines, designed capacity of 400MW, contributing an important source of energy to the national grid. The expansion of this project, with a capital of nearly 4,000 billion VND, in the future will have 2 more turbines, capacity of 200MW to serve the electricity demand for socio-economic development.

It is known that this project is included in the Power Plan VIII, will start construction at the end of 2024, and be completed in the fourth quarter of 2027.

The above thoroughness shows that the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises, as the representative agency of the owner at EVN, does not want to repeat the story that "heated up" public opinion due to the power shortage last summer. Moreover, recently, at the Business Forum (VBF 2024), a number of foreign investor associations also expressed concerns that the power shortage could affect the operations of FDI enterprises.

Here, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan spoke up to commit that the Ministry is promoting the early realization of the 8th Power Plan, along with the urgent construction of the 500kV line 3, Quang Trach - Pho Noi, bringing electricity to the North. Mr. Tan affirmed: "The power shortage will not occur in 2024 and the following years".
