ANTD.VN - In 2023, the "explosion" of ChatGPT shook the world technology market, opening up a race to conquer artificial AI among countries and giants in the technology field. Vietnam is not out of this trend with a series of artificial AI products being born.
The Model Behind Generative AI
Generative AI is considered the next generation of artificial intelligence, focusing on creating new content, solutions or ideas, instead of just analyzing data as it does today. The basic model behind the operation of generative AI is called the Large Language Model (LLM).
This is a type of language model that is trained using deep learning techniques on huge text datasets. These models are capable of generating text similar to humans and performing many natural language processing tasks. Some popular models include GPT-4 developed by OpenAI, or Bard by Google.
Therefore, to fully master generative AI from the deepest core, businesses need to build and train large language models from the very beginning. Specifically, in the foundational stage, the model can be trained on large data sets to memorize the rules and structures of language. Through the training stage, the model begins to draw relationships between words, phrases, sentences and different concepts and then continues to be refined through many steps to create a foundation for developing practical applications of generative AI.
Reality of AI application in Vietnam
Currently, generative AI research and development units around the world often provide products in some form such as open source, closed source, or closed source but available via APIs and end-user applications.
With open source codes like LLaMA (Meta), the model is public so that developers/communities can download, use, edit and customize. In contrast, closed source codes are often not public or provided through connection protocols (APIs) like GPT-4 (OpenAI) allowing businesses to integrate this core technology into their own products. Applications like ChatGPT or Bard are finished products for end users to easily access/install and use specific tasks.
In Vietnam, a number of units have launched generative AI models in different formats such as the FPT GenAI platform for businesses, the open source model PhoGPT and recently Zalo AI LLM. Up to now, there has not been a 100% "made in Vietnam" application for end users that has been officially announced in the Vietnamese market.
It is likely that Vietnam will have a similar version of ChatGPT for end users, focusing on Vietnamese knowledge. |
According to many sources, VinBigdata, a unit of Vingroup, will soon launch the ViGPT application - "Vietnamese version of ChatGPT" for end users and businesses, focusing on some specific content of Vietnam such as culture, history, geography, famous people... According to shared information, users can use the limited experience version of ViGPT in Vietnamese on the web interface, similar to ChatGPT. It is possible that this unit will officially introduce the product from December 27, 2023.
Some units have launched generative AI models in different formats, but currently there is no 100% "made in Vietnam" application for end users. |
The Ministry of Information and Communications has recently issued a plan, aiming for Vietnam to have at least one Vietnamese LLM technology platform by 2025. The plan emphasizes that researching, developing, and applying Vietnamese LLM is an important, necessary, and meaningful task. Vietnamese LLM uses Vietnam's filtered knowledge and training data at low cost for people, businesses, and organizations in Vietnam to use to develop new applications.
Vietnam is in the early stages of its journey to conquer generative AI. The launch of Vietnamese-made ChatGPT-like applications is a good sign that shows the efforts of domestic technology companies to eliminate dependence on international products, ensure information accuracy, and minimize data flow to foreign markets.
