The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just sent a document to the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) regarding the continued implementation of biometric authentication, authentication and use of citizen identification cards and electronic chip passports for passengers flying at Phu Bai International Airport.

Accordingly, the Civil Aviation Authority has agreed to continue piloting the implementation of biometric authentication, authentication and use of citizen identification cards and passports with electronic chips for passengers flying at Phu Bai airport. The pilot period starts from May 13 to June 13.

In addition, for the pilot at Cat Bi and Noi Bai airports, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requested that Vietnam Airports consistently implement the pilot plan at the airports. The Authority also requested that only specific details be adjusted to suit the specific characteristics of each airport. Currently, there are 3 airports nationwide that are piloting the use of chip-embedded ID cards to authenticate passengers, including Cat Bi, Noi Bai, and Phu Bai airports. Biometric authentication when citizens automatically board the plane to avoid congestion is a task assigned to the Ministry of Transport to preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security to implement in 2023. This is one of more than 100 tasks that ministries and branches are focusing on implementing to implement the "Project on developing applications of data on population, identification and electronic authentication to serve national digital transformation in the period 2022 - 2025, with a vision to 2030".
